Brian Jones here. Today is a hisorical day for our law firm so I just wanted to say a few words.
Before ever graduating from law school, Robert Boyd and I had decided that after we graduated, we were going to start our own firm. At that point, I had only known Robert for about 2 years but we had become great friends. I didn’t just want to go into business with Robert because we were friends though. Robert and I shared a lot of ideas concerning the practice of law, however little we actually knew about it at that point, and it was clear that we could not possibly go work for someone else and have them tell us how to treat our clients. People come to attorneys at some of the worst times in their lives. They need help, and they rely on us for that. It is an honor for someone to put their trust in us like that, and we could do nothing but give them the best possible representation in return.
In addition to our friendship and shared views, I’ve also always known that Robert is intelligent, more so than he lets on with his constant (often bad) jokes and sarcasm. Robert’s intelligence, passion to advocate for his clients, and hard work have paid off well over the years, but perhaps no more than this week when along with Todd Lewis and Ryan Vantrease, Robert obtained a verdict of not-guilty on all counts for a client in a high profile capital murder trial. There are absolutely no higher stakes in the practice of law than a capital murder case. Robert handled the case like an attorney that had been practicing for decades and because of his work, an innocent man’s life has been spared. To say that I’m proud of Robert is an understatement. This is certainly one of the greatest victories in the history of our firm, but I know that it is one in what will be a long line of them, and I couldn’t look forward to that more.
