Important Immigration Bond Update

We have recently been receiving calls from families whose loved ones in detention have received notices related to the decision in Lazaro Maldonado Bautista v. U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

These notices may mean that a detained individual is eligible to request a bond hearing before an Immigration Judge.

⚠️ Important: This does not mean bond has been granted. It only means the person may be eligible to ask a judge to consider bond.
If you or a loved one received one of these notices and have questions, our team is here to help.

📢 Important USCIS Update: Work Permit Validity Reduced

USCIS has announced a major policy change that will impact many immigrants who rely on work permits to support their families while their cases are pending or after they have been granted protection.

🔎 Starting December 5, 2025, work permits for certain categories—including refugees, asylees, individuals with pending asylum or adjustment of status, and those with withholding or cancellation of removal—will be reduced from 5 years to only 18 months.

USCIS states this change is intended to increase security monitoring and more frequent vetting. However, it also means more frequent renewals, additional fees, and increased uncertainty for thousands of families who are legally authorized to work.

💬 If your work permit is expiring soon, or you’re unsure how this affects you, we’re here to help you review your options.

• Preparar pruebas y documentos

📢 URGENT ASYLUM UPDATE

Following the tragic shooting in Washington, D.C., the Trump Administration has temporarily paused all asylum decisions nationwide.

USCIS Director Joseph B. Edlow stated that decisions will not resume until the government can “ensure maximum vetting and screening.”

🔴 What This Means:
✔️ If your asylum case is pending: It will remain pending with no interviews scheduled.
✔️ If you already interviewed: No final decision will be issued for now.
✔️ You CAN still file new asylum applications—the pause does NOT stop filings.

📌 Important: Filing on time remains critical, especially if you are close to the one-year deadline.

💡 What You Should Do:
• Prepare evidence and documents
• Attend biometrics & required appointments
• Keep addresses updated
• Stay in compliance
• Speak with a trusted immigration attorney

You are not alone. We represent asylum seekers from all backgrounds and are here to guide you.

📢 Important Legal Update: Bond Rights Confirmed for Certain Immigrants

A recent federal court decision has delivered a major victory for immigrants living inside the United States who entered without inspection and were not detained at the border.

The Court ruled that DHS cannot treat these individuals as “applicants for admission” under §1225(b)(2) and cannot detain them as if they were new arrivals.

➡️ If you entered without inspection, were not caught at the border, and are not subject to mandatory detention, you are entitled to a bond hearing before an immigration judge.

This decision protects families and limits the government’s detention power.
