Three things judges hate to see in a custody case. All three are avoidable, and all three come down to the same habit.
Do not pull your kids into the conflict. They do not need to hear the arguments or carry the stress of what is happening between the adults.
Do not show them the court documents. What they need to know is the schedule. Where they are going, on what day, and who is driving them to practice.
Do not use them as messengers. No more sending a child home to say mom or dad needs more pants sent over, or that you should be the one buying the soccer cleats this time.
Kids are not couriers and they are not a courtroom audience. Take them out of the middle. The judge will notice, and your children will feel the difference long before the case is over.
