Out of policy: LAPD finds officers used inappropriate tactics and force to restrain and arrest 31-year-old Keenan Anderson in Venice in January. Anderson died in police custody.

Douglas/Hicks Law attorneys Carl Douglas and Jamon Hicks have won a $3.75M jury verdict for the nephew of an Officer. Jamal Shakir accused his uncle Officer Eric Anderson of violating his civil rights and having him shot twice with a projectile while he was peacefully protesting during a May 29, 2020, Black Lives Matter - Los Angeles protest in over the murder of . After a 10-day trial, a LA County Sup. Court jury comprised of 11 women and one man, returned a verdict Tuesday that found the City of Los Angeles and Sergeant Robert Bechtol were liable for negligence. Officer Anderson was absolved of violating his nephew’s civil rights.

“They’re trying to George Floyd me. They’re trying to George Floyd me,” Anderson says, referencing the man killed while handcuffed by police officers in Minneapolis in 2020.

The Los Angeles Police Department on Wednesday said it has launched investigations into the deaths of three men after encounters with their officers. In two of the cases, the officers shot and killed the civilians.

Carl Douglas spoke to the media Wednesday outside of LAPDHQ in DTLA on behalf of ’s family. Anderson was a teacher and the 31 y/o cousin of BLM co-founder Patrisse Cullors. On Jan. 3, he was Tased 7 times during an altercation with a LAPD officer after a traffic accident.

Before Anderson died, he accused the officers of trying to “George Floyd” him. 4 1/2 hours later he died.

DHL will be seeking justice on behalf of his daughter.
