Custis Law, P.C. recently filed two cases against Camino Real Foods, Inc., the Vernon-based company that makes Tina's Burritos. Our client, defendant's former COO, alleges that he was terminated in retaliation for having complained about sexual harassment and workplace safety. Looking forward to achieving a little justice in the world.

A former executive for a Vernon factory that produces such Mexican-style foods as Tina's Burritos is suing the company, alleging he was fired in the spring for complaining about workplace safety problems that included workers being exposed to high levels of ammonia.

Happy to report that Custis Law, P.C. obtained a $2,800,000 settlement for our client, a minimum wage worker, who was subjected to racial harassment and retaliation, and who was then wrongfully terminated. This was a hard-fought, heavily litigated case with over 25 days of deposition and over 600 discovery requests for a very deserving client.

No worker should need to tolerate hostile work environments based on race and color, or any other protected characteristic. If you have been called the n-word or "mayate" at work, call us for a free consultation.

In the last decade, the two largest race discrimination cases brought by the federal government in the Golden State alleged widespread abuse of hundreds of Black employees at Inland Empire warehouses.

The N-word and other racist slurs were hurled daily at Black workers at Tesla’s California plant, delivered not just by fellow employees but also by managers and supervisors. So says California’s civil rights agency in a lawsuit filed against the electric-vehicle maker in Alameda County Superior Court on Thursday on behalf of thousands of Black workers after a decade of complaints and a 32-month investigation.

What's happening at Tesla is unconscionable and repugnant. No worker should need to tolerate hostile work environments based on race and color, or any other protected characteristic.

In their own words, former Tesla employees describe what they call a racist work environment that led California to file a civil rights lawsuit against the company.

A little good news: "Costco has raised its minimum wage to $17 an hour, and Starbucks will raise its starting pay to $15 an hour. They join a growing list of chains that have added new incentives, trying to keep their workers in a year of mass resignations and stepped-up labor organizing."

Costco pays $17 an hour after a second raise this year. Starbucks is raising hourly pay to $15 amid a union effort. Major chains are pushing to draw workers, who have shunned a million retail jobs.

Last week, Gov. Newsom signed a bill that restricts warehouse employers from setting productivity quotas that prevent workers from taking breaks or following health and safety laws.

“The hardworking warehouse employees who have helped sustain us during these unprecedented times should not have to risk injury or face punishment as a result of exploitative quotas that violate basic health and safety,” said Governor Newsom. “I’m proud to sign this legislation giving them the dignity, respect and safety they deserve and advancing California’s leadership at the forefront of workplace safety.”

“The hardworking warehouse employees who have helped sustain us during these unprecedented times should not have to risk injury or face punishment,” Gov. Gavin Newsom said.

Custis Law P.C. Fights for Employee Rights

Custis Law P.C. is a Los Angeles-based employment law firm that represents employees and applicants who need help protecting their legal rights.

With over 20 years of high-level experience, attorney Keith Custis is a passionate and aggressive advocate for employees who have been mistreated by their employers.

As an employee in California, understanding your legal rights can be a challenge. If you don’t know your rights, protecting them can be next to impossible. When you consider that employers often prioritize their bottom lines over treating their employees with the respect they deserve, it is not hard to see why many employees simply give up when they experience discriminatory or other unfair treatment on the job.

At Custis Law, P.C., our Los Angeles employment attorney turns the tables in our clients’ favor. With over two decades of legal experience, founding employment law attorney Keith Custis has extensive knowledge of the state and federal laws that protect employees in California. He puts his advocacy skills to work for employees in negotiations, administrative proceedings, and in court. When you come to us, we don’t expect you to know your rights, and we don’t expect you to know what you want out of your legal representation. If you believe you may have been wronged—or if you aren’t sure and would like to find out—we encourage you to contact us online or at 213-863-4276 for a free consultation.
