What if there was a business structure designed specifically for creators?

Colorado recently became the first state to recognize the Artist Corporation (A-Corp), a new legal entity created to help artists, musicians, filmmakers, writers, content creators, and other creative professionals maintain control of their work while building sustainable businesses.

Some of the unique features include:

✔️ Artist majority ownership requirements
✔️ Intellectual property reversion rights
✔️ The ability to separate economic rights from governance rights
✔️ Simplified formation options

As the creator economy continues to grow, we’re seeing new legal frameworks emerge that recognize creative work as both an artistic and business asset.

Whether you’re an artist, entrepreneur, or founder, choosing the right business structure can have a significant impact on ownership, liability, intellectual property, and future growth opportunities.

Behind every song is a creator.

Black Music Month is a reminder that creative work has value, and that value deserves protection.

Whether it’s a song, a brand, a business, or an original idea, intellectual property rights help creators maintain ownership of what they’ve built.

We celebrate the artists whose contributions have shaped music history and the creators continuing to build the future.

When does AI-generated content cross the line into cultural appropriation?

A recent controversy involves “Eddie Dalton,” an AI-generated R&B/blues artist created by a white content creator. While the music may be artificial, the ethical questions are very real.

Critics argue that creating and profiting from a fictional Black artist persona raises concerns about cultural appropriation, particularly when drawing from musical genres deeply rooted in Black culture and lived experiences.

As AI continues to reshape the creative landscape, we’re left with important questions:

▪️ Should AI-generated artists be clearly disclosed?
▪️ Who benefits when AI replicates cultural identities and artistic traditions?
▪️ Where is the line between innovation and appropriation?

Just because AI can create it, doesn’t mean the ethical questions disappear.

5 patterns we see most often in California wrongful termination cases:

1. Retaliation after an internal complaint.
2. Disability or pregnancy accommodation denied.
3. Whistleblower retaliation.
4. Misclassification as exempt or 1099.
5. Discrimination disguised as ‘culture fit’.

Any of these sound familiar?

California may be an at-will employment state, but that does not mean employers can terminate employees for unlawful reasons.

Employees are still protected from:
• Discrimination
• Retaliation
• Whistleblower retaliation
• Pregnancy discrimination
• Disability discrimination
• Violations of public policy

Too often, employees second-guess themselves after being terminated — especially when the employer offers vague explanations or suddenly changes course after a complaint is made.

If you believe your termination may have been connected to:
✔ Reporting misconduct
✔ Requesting accommodations
✔ Taking protected leave
✔ Raising concerns about discrimination or harassment
✔ Refusing unlawful activity

…it may be worth speaking with an attorney sooner rather than later.

Documentation matters. Timing matters. Deadlines matter.
