October 10th is World Mental Health Day, a time to reflect on the importance of compassion, understanding, and mental well-being both in and outside of the workplace. At Payton Employment Law, PC, we recognize that mental health is an essential part of every worker’s overall health, and no one should ever face stigma or punishment for prioritizing their well-being.

Under California Government Code § 12940, it is unlawful for employers to discriminate against or harass employees because of a mental disability, such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, or other mental health conditions. The law also requires employers to provide reasonable accommodations to employees who need support to perform their essential job duties and prohibits retaliation against employees for requesting such accommodations.

Unfortunately, many workers still encounter stigma or resistance when they request help or disclose a mental health condition. These experiences can be deeply discouraging.

✨ We’re grateful for another inspiring CAALA Las Vegas experience!
Earlier this month, over the Labor Day weekend, our team attended the 2026 Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (“CAALA”) conference in Las Vegas and connected with talented attorneys, mediators, and judges from across the legal community. From gaining new perspectives on issues that impact our work in employment law to exchanging ideas and building meaningful relationships with fellow advocates, the conference offered plenty of opportunities to learn and grow.
We’re thankful for the conversations, connections, and continued inspiration that make gatherings like CAALA so meaningful. We look forward to bringing what we learned back to our practice and continuing our commitment to advocating for workers’ rights.
