As we embark on the beginning of the holiday season, we are reflecting on the endless challenges we have confronted this year, but most importantly, on what drives our team to commit to representing and supporting some of the most vulnerable immigrants in Southern California.

Earlier this year we were faced with the grim reality of funding cuts and an administration that is focused on limiting due process for migrants. While this forced our team to make shifts in programming that were unforeseen, we quickly and strategically pivoted to meet the changing needs of the community we are dedicated to serving.

We have embraced the changes and new partnerships that have allowed us to continue providing integral services. We are thankful for the new opportunities that have presented themselves and for the long-standing stakeholder partnerships.

While our program’s goals are rooted in providing expert immigration legal advice and guidance that promote access to justice, we also strive to make Esperanza a home for our staff, interns, legal fellows, and volunteers.

In that spirit, we have reflected on what brings us joy about engaging in the work that we do.

And that is the people. Our clients. Our colleagues. Our community.

We are grateful for having the privilege and honor to work at Esperanza, and to learn about the resiliency of our clients.

Esperanza is not only defined by its work in the community. It is shaped by the people that are part of our team. Our team consists of attorneys, paralegals, and social service professionals.

Collectively we strive to offer support to our clients that is rooted in empathy and a desire for justice.

Our legal fellow, Jonathan, is driven by his family’s experience with deportations. His family’s story has driven him to be the best legal advocate for his clients. His dedication and commitment to his cases bring hope to his clients that are often find themselves disheartened by the cruel immigration system.

We are thankful for Jonathan’s contribution to our Esperanza team.

Your donation to Esperanza will allow us to continue providing legal fellows with the hands-on experience that will shape their future as immigration attorneys.

Esperanza’s impact is meaningful because of the zealous advocates that are part of our team. Our staff are dedicated, empathetic, and thoughtful.

They show up every day, inspiring hope in their clients.

Roxanna, one of our legal fellows, does just that. Combining their legal expertise with their heartfelt compassion for the work, they provide hope to the unaccompanied minors that they represent.

Esperanza’s mission is to inspire hope through our work and day-to-day interactions with community members that we serve and represent.

Our legal and holistic services team work together to ensure that program participants receive not only expert legal advice and litigation, but that they have access to food, housing, and mental health services as they’re going through the legal process.

Watch the video below to hear directly from a community member about the support she received from our Esperanza team.

Your donation will inspire and defend HOPE.

On graduation day, ICE deported two Louisiana high school students with SIJS.

The two brothers, Elias* and Brayan*, were living in Louisiana with their father when they accompanied him to what should have been a routine immigration appointment. Instead, ICE detained and deported the brothers to Guatemala, despite the fact that a Louisiana state court and USCIS had determined it was not in the best interests of the brothers to go back to Guatemala.

The deportation of SIJS youth must be stopped.

📢Join us in calling for the return of Elias and Brayan and for the safety of all SIJS youth!

We are calling on the public to help us .
