Generally, this is useful information. However, the critical statute of limitations is for the state whose law governs your contract, NOT the state where you live or were sued. And thanks to trump, you can no longer rely on the CFPB to do anything to protect consumers.

Thanks to TV shows like “Law and Order,” you might know there’s a statute of limitations for criminal charges. What’s not as well known, however, is that there’s also a statute of limitations on debt.

This is a great ruling for student loan debtors, at least in the 7th Circuit. Sadly, if appealed I think the current Supreme Court would reverse.

A student loan servicer may be liable for promising to advise distressed student loan borrowers on how to manage their financial situation, then steering them into plans that benefited lenders, forcing the students to pay more, the Seventh Circuit ruled Thursday.
