IN COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE NEWS: Gov. Newsom clashed this week with recommendations related to increasing remote work to minimize office space use in the state - pitting the need for new housing against commercial real estate interests in the unspoken background of this fight. More, here.

The auditor's report found that the state could potentially cut its office space by around 30% across seven large buildings, if it allowed workers to remain remote for three days a week.

IN COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE NEWS: Architecture firms are reporting a mixed bag for commercial real estate right now, with billing in decline but inquiries into new projects on an upswing. More on this discrepancy, here.

The AIA/Deltek Architecture Billings Index (ABI) remained in negative territory in June with a score of 46.8, down from 47.2 in May.

IN COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE NEWS: While much of California is still experiencing sluggish growth in the commercial real estate sector, San Francisco is in truly troubling waters, with the lowest commercial sector growth rate of all the Bay Area counties. More on this phenomenon, here.

In a turnaround from last decade, the Bay Area counties that are more rural or residential fared better in assessed property values, with Solano County having the highest growth rate.

A California real estate mogul has been arrested and is facing multiple federal charges for allegedly running a 15-year Ponzi scheme that defrauded hundreds of investors out of nearly $30 million.
