Law Office of Miho Murai The Law Office of Miho Murai is committed to providing high quality legal representation to children

We provide legal representation to children and their families in accessing their rights to a quality education. Some of the areas of representation include:

- Special education, i.e. requesting an initial assessment for special education, attending IEP meetings, attending Section 504 meetings, and appearing at resolution sessions, mediations, and due process hearings;
- School discipline, i.e.

contesting an expulsion, appealing a suspension, and contesting an opportunity transfer; and
- Discrimination based on race, gender, color, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, age, or religion at the school site. We also provide legal representation in the following areas:

- Immigration (Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), U Visa, Naturalization/Citizenship, and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA))
- Guardianship
- Adoption
- Dependency (i.e. children in foster care)

Thankful to be on LAUSD's Community Advisory Committee and grateful to the Office of Parent and Community Services for allowing me to attend the 2023 California Association for Bilingual Education Conference free of charge. This is a great conference that I used to attend when I was a bilingual elementary school teacher and brings back great memories. Always a lifelong learner!

The Bridges 2e Center is bringing together leading voices to further the conversation around the intersection of neurodiversity — including giftedness and other learning differences — and ethnicity. This online event, taking place Dec. 9-11, 2022, will feature speakers such as Dr. Joy Lawson Davis, Dr. Carlita Cotton, Dr. Anne Gray, Dr. Nielsen Pereira, Dr. Gilman Whiting, and more.

With this event, they intend to inspire, connect, educate, and reflect on the discussion in the neurodiversity and cultural diversity area of convergence. The symposium will aim to create an opportunity for scholars, parents, and advocates to learn about and discuss the needs of culturally diverse learners who are twice-exceptional, discover what they can do to create more inclusive communities where students’ needs are met, and to develop a broader, sustainable support community.

We are appointed by the school board to advise the Board of Education, Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) Director and the Superintendent’s Cabinet on the annual priorities addressed in the SELPA local plan and to advocate for effective Special Education programs and services.

I am very honored and excited to announce that I will be presenting at the Family Academy Webinar on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 from 5:30 pm to 7 pm. The presentation will be about the IEP Journey: A Program to Help Students Realize Their Dreams. It will be available in Spanish and English.
