My favorite Apostille story:
We were at Trader Joe's on a Sunday evening, around 730 pm, when my business line rang. I answered. On the other end was my now-favorite repeat client. He and his fiancée were leaving for a month-long trip, traveling to a few countries and then getting married in Mexico.

As they were packing and going through the "what you need to get married in Mexico" list, she pointed out the Apostille. What's an Apostille, he said?

They were leaving on Monday afternoon. Apostilles are issued by the California Secretary of State's office in LA or Sacramento, and sometimes at local pop-up events throughout California. Even if I drove it down to LA, it would have been close, and he understandably didn't want to pay that kind of expedited fee.

We brainstormed together and came up with a plan. I went to their house that night to get the document. The next day, I went to the Ventura County Superior Court at the Government Center to get a certified copy of his document, then sent it off Priority Overnight to my courier for hand delivery to the CA SOS in Sacramento. She then sent it off Priority Overnight to a relative who carried it with her to Mexico. She was traveling a few days later than they were.

He left me one of the most complimentary reviews I have ever received. Shared in comments.

This is an older article, but these real estate schemes are still occurring today.

A friend in my social circle was able to stop a fraudulent real estate deal by remaining vigilant and monitoring Zillow. The deal is currently being investigated by law enforcement.

Notaries are the last line of defense against fraud, but often these criminals work with accomplices who impersonate notaries.

And while there are other lines of defense against fraud before the notary, if your property is vulnerable to this type of scam, stay vigilant.

Monday I attended the City Impact lunch at Spanish Hills Club--celebrating 30 years! 🎉

City Impact is a great organization affecting real change in our community through their support of at risk youth.

There are many ways you can support them. Volunteer. Donate. Or simply spread the word.

Sheriff Jim Fryhoff, the opening speaker, described Ventura as large enough to have resources but small enough where everyone knows each other. The perfect balance.

Ventura is a great place to live, and organizations like City Impact are part of that.

Seven notarizations for seven Apostilles! ✨

This was a fun job for a local business here in the city of Ventura. Why was it fun, you ask? Apostilles are fun anyway, but this business had classic cars on site—and I love classic cars! While waiting for my client, I got to check them out.

I notarized seven documents between two employees and began the Apostille process—Day 1. By Day 3, the Apostilled documents were back from my courier (a fellow notary) and I personally delivered them—so I could admire the classic cars again. Just kidding! Personal delivery is part of my service—it wasn’t just about the cars.

April 28 - May 4, 2024 is National Small Business Week. It's a week where entrepreneurs are officially celebrated for their grit, hard work, and contributions to the economy.

The SBA is holding events all week and even the Whitehouse released "A Proclamation on National Small Business Week, 2024”.

One of my missions as A Signature Above is to support other small local businesses like mine. I do this by actively getting to know other businesses so I can:
💡 Add to my referral list for clients who ask me if I know a [fill in the blank].
💡Be a dot connector between local businesses—my wheels are always turning, and this happens naturally.
💡In certain circumstances, become a referral partner and/or do some teamwork for mutual prospecting.
