FOSL “Homes Through the Centuries” Spotlight | 857 Longmeadow Street
This “Homes Through the Centuries” spotlight takes us to 857 Longmeadow Street, a gracious white home with a fascinating connection to Longmeadow’s past and even to another home featured on our tour.
Built around 1830 by farmer Skinner Coomes, the house later became known as the Pease House after Coomes’s daughter married. Its early occupants were prominent farmers, and the property once included land that is now part of Longfellow Drive. Over the years, the house has evolved, but traces of its earlier days remain, including a wonderful story about making the most of what you have. When the home’s original wide front porch was removed, its railings were given a second life at a neighboring house just three doors away at 797 Longmeadow Street, also on our tour!
Want to discover more stories like this and see the Pease House for yourself? You'll have the opportunity during the Friends of Storrs Library ”Homes Through the Centuries” tour on Sunday, October 4.
Tickets are on sale now at friendsofstorrslibrary.org. Quantities are limited, so reserve yours today and join us for a unique look inside some of Longmeadow’s most distinctive homes all while supporting programming at Storrs Library.
