Even after the judge issues a ruling, sometimes clients are left wondering who won.

That’s fair — court rulings are filled with legal analysis and legalese. There’s no scoreboard. Just pages of findings.

And let’s be honest — some attorneys claim they “won” every trial.

So how do you actually tell?

Here’s a practical clue:

In many cases, the judge directs the prevailing party’s attorney to draft the order.

That’s not random.

If your attorney was told to prepare the written order, that’s usually a strong sign your position carried the day.

If the other side was ordered to draft it… that tells you something too.

Court outcomes aren’t determined by post-hearing announcements.

They’re reflected in the court’s instructions.

Stop. Talking.

A deposition is not your TED Talk.
It is not your redemption arc.
It is not your chance to “set the record straight.”

It’s discovery.
For the other side.

Opposing counsel is not confused.
They are not curious.
They are not your friend.

They are building a record.

They will either:
• Smile and nod so you relax
• Or push you until you feel the need to defend yourself

Both strategies have one goal:
Get you to say more than necessary.

Here’s the rule:
Answer the question asked.
Nothing more.
Nothing less.

Silence is not your enemy.
Over-explaining is.

Every extra sentence is an exhibit.
Every volunteered detail is a future cross-examination.

Precision wins cases.
Emotion loses leverage.

Short answers.
Calm tone.
Then stop.

Let them work for it.

ADORABLE: A Kentucky family battling extreme cold temperatures on their farm over the weekend opened their home to a newborn calf that was struggling in the deep freeze.

Hours later, the calf, fed and fluffed, took a spot on the couch with the Sorrell family’s two children. Their mom, Macey Sorrell, snapped some photos and later posted them to social media, and the cuteness did not go unnoticed.

The calf was born outdoors in single digit temperatures on Saturday. Macey Sorrell said her husband, Tanner, went outside to check on the pregnant mother and found the calf, suffering in the cold.

“She was just frozen. Her umbilical cord looked like a popsicle,” Macey Sorrell said Thursday from her home in Mount Sterling, Kentucky. “It was just frozen.”

After losing a calf last winter to frostbite, the family moved quickly to bring the baby inside to clean her off and warm her up.

Soon the calf was lying on the couch, cuddling with her young children.

“They crawled up next to her like it was just the most normal thing,” she said. Her 3-year-old son, Gregory, decided to name the calf Sally, a character from his favorite movie, “Cars.”
