A lawsuit filed last week asks a Lancaster County judge to declare Nebraska's public school funding unconstitutional.

The legal theory is abstract. The evidence isn't. When you get to the paragraphs describing what "government orthodoxy" actually means, a substantial part of it is a sticker on a classroom door, a librarian's book recommendation, and kids being asked to use a classmate's name.

I read it as a lawyer. Then I read it again as a q***r and gay man with a kid at LPS, and as someone who was once a closeted kid in a building where nothing on any wall suggested there was another way to be.

I've written up what the case actually argues — stated fairly, because an argument you've misstated is one you haven't answered — and why I think it fails.
