¿Sabías que no tenemos ni idea de quiénes construyeron las pirámides de Teotihuacán en México? Ni siquiera sabemos cómo se llamaba la ciudad.

Cuando los mexicas llegaron a estas tierras las edificaciones ya existían, pero no había rastro de la civilización que las construyó. Teotihuacán es el nombre que le dieron los mexicas en náhuatl, y significa "ciudad de los dioses".
Tanto la pirámide del Sol como la de la Luna tampoco tienen nombres originales conocidos; estos nombres fueron asignados por los mexicas al descubrir el lugar. Lo importante aquí es que en México existió una civilización avanzada antes de que los mayas y los aztecas hicieran su aparición. Los habitantes que hoy conocemos como Teotihuacán nunca dejaron inscripciones o jeroglíficos que identifiquen claramente quiénes eran.

In a 69-11 vote, the U.S. Senate confirmed Thurgood Marshall to the Supreme Court on August 30, 1967, making him the Court's first Black Justice. ⚖️

Marshall had a long history of arguing successfully before the Supreme Court as a civil rights lawyer, most famously on the landmark Brown v. Board of Education school desegregation case.

Actor Paul Newman at the Democratic National Convention in 1968 supporting Eugene McCarthy. Newman campaigned for McCarthy in Omaha, Lincoln and Hastings, Nebraska on April 30, 1968. Robert F. Kennedy defeated McCarthy 52% to 31% in the Nebraska primary.

Lyndon B. Johnson was born on this date in 1908.

His domestic accomplishments were among the greatest of all time. He passed the 1964 tax cuts, the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the 1965 Voting Rights Act, Medicare, Medicaid, federal aide to education and the 1968 Fair Housing Act.

Most of these laws were passed with bi-partisan support since there was a moderate Republican wing in the 1960s. However, the now dominant conservative wing opposed LBJ's domestic reforms.

Ronald Reagan opposed all of the LBJ's civil rights acts and Medicare. Reagan said Medicare was like Marxism and would bring about the end of our freedom.

Johnson's presidency foundered due to his controversial escalation of the Vietnam War.

Historians rank Johnson number 11 among the 45 presidents that have been ranked.
