JFK said: "One person can make a difference, and everyone should try." Dave did not accomplish this alone; many supported him and BraveBE with Project Safe, and together they did indeed make a difference and will continue to do so.

🏅 Acts of Bravery Award | Dr. David Hansen 🏅

For nearly 30 years, Dr. David Hansen has helped ensure children who have experienced sexual abuse and their families have access to the support they need to heal.

In 1996, Dr. Hansen and graduate students in the Child Maltreatment Lab at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln developed Project SAFE (Sexual Abuse Family Education), a treatment program designed specifically for youth who have experienced sexual abuse and their nonoffending family members.

BraveBe's relationship with Project SAFE reaches back nearly as far. Over the years, our organizations have worked together to identify the needs of children and families following abuse and connect them with timely, specialized mental health services. Through that partnership, countless children and caregivers have received support, education, coping tools, and a safe place to begin healing.

Now, as Dr. Hansen retires, BraveBe is incredibly honored to carry Project SAFE forward and ensure these important services remain available to children and families in our community. We know we're inheriting much more than a program. We're being entrusted with a legacy built through decades of research, collaboration, compassion, and an unwavering belief that children and families deserve support after abuse.

And while Dr. Hansen's professional accomplishments are remarkable, anyone who has had the opportunity to work with him knows there is even more to celebrate. Dave is extraordinarily kind, positive, thoughtful, and brilliant. He has been an incredible partner and friend to BraveBe, and we have truly loved working alongside him.

Dr. Hansen, thank you for nearly three decades of showing up for children and families and for creating something that will continue making a difference long after your retirement. While your retirement is certainly a loss for our field and our community, we couldn't be happier for you as you begin this next chapter.

My office officially closed on March 31. What a great adventure it has been. My team and I marked the occasion with a celebratory lunch at The Green Gateau. My former paralegal, Joan Tumbleson, surprised me with a sketched portrait. Family, friends, colleagues, office neighbors, and clients have wished me well as I set out on my next adventure. The day after I closed my doors, I won a raffle with adventure supplies from Cornhusker Bank. I am ready for my next adventure, and my heart is full from all the kindness bestowed upon me. Thank you all!

A big thank you to our office neighbors, Cornhusker Bank, who hosted a potluck to bid us farewell. We have enjoyed our office neighbors, who have treated us like family; the same kindness and compassion is shown to their customers. Great people = great bank. We will miss seeing you every day.
