KSB is bringing back our Quarterly Webinar Series for 2026–2027, with four in-depth sessions covering some of the issues Nebraska school leaders deal with every year.

Enrollment. Attendance. Student rights. Residency.

Each three-hour session comes with practical guidance, scenarios and resources you can take back to your district.

First up: Option Enrollment on October 13.

Play Like a Pro (And Keep Your District Out of the Penalty Box) It's game day and an option enrollment for a special education student just landed in your inbox. A student hasn't been to class in three weeks, and you are not sure whether this is a child find issue or what legal obligations should

First back-to-school in-service of the 2026–2027 school year is in the books! Thank you for having me, Blair Community Schools!

One of my favorite things about visiting different districts is learning about traditions in each district. At Blair, juniors and seniors can pay to paint their parking spots, and the proceeds help fund prom. As you can see, they have already been hard at work.

Here's to a great school year!

Wyoming districts, we've got something new for you.

Our Wyoming-specific blog is officially live, bringing you legal updates tailored to Wyoming schools. One of our first posts covers a recent court decision clarifying FERPA, the IDEA and truancy enforcement ( spoiler alert: it's good news for districts!)

Good legal news for school districts doesn't come around every day — so when it does, it's worth celebrating.  A recent Wyoming district court decision hands districts two wins at once: (1) FERPA and the IDEA don't stand in the way of the state's attendance laws, and (2) districts unhap

You can't always get what you want... especially when it comes to cooperative purchasing.

A recent Attorney General's Opinion is changing the tune for South Dakota school districts, with important guidance on when cooperative purchasing can (and can’t) be used.

Our latest blog breaks down what districts need to know.

The Rolling Stones warned us decades ago that You Can't Always Get What You Want . (For the hideously uninformed the Gen Z and millennials crowd, the Rolling Stones is an iconic band made up of Keith Richards and Mick Jagger, with great music such as I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction , Jumpin’

It may be summer break, but your legal to-do list doesn't take a vacation.

If you're in South Dakota, now's the time to make sure you're ready for the new school year. Our latest blog walks through the key July deadlines, required notices and other statutory reminders to help you start the year on the right foot.

July in South Dakota means three things: county fairs, road construction, and — for school administrators — the legal equivalent of New Year's Day. The fiscal year flipped over on July 1, roughly 200 freshly minted laws just took effect (don’t worry - not all 200 apply to schools), and your bo...

Looking for some light reading over the holiday weekend? KSB has you covered.

Our latest blog covers what has become the ACLU-Nebraska's annual public records requests and what districts should expect.

We're also talking board retreats! Why they matter and how to make them worth everyone's time.

Happy Fourth and happy reading!

The Department of Education just reshuffled oversight of special education, civil rights enforcement and FERPA.

If your first thought was, “Wait…what does that mean for my district?” you’re not alone.

The short answer: your obligations haven’t changed. The structure around them has.

We break down what happened, what’s staying the same and what school leaders should be watching next.
