Our KFB President - always advocating for agriculture and farm families in Kentucky

Today, I had the privilege of testifying before the United States Senate Agriculture Committee on behalf of Kentucky farm families and producers across the country.

Farmers are facing tremendous pressure from rising fertilizer costs, low commodity prices, and continued uncertainty in global markets. These challenges are showing up in real time on balance sheets, in planting decisions, and in the long-term stability of family farms.

I urged Congress to take immediate action to help producers manage today’s cost pressures while also pursuing long-term solutions that strengthen domestic fertilizer production, improve market transparency, and protect the future of American agriculture.

Access to affordable inputs and fair, transparent markets is critical, not only for farmers, but for the long-term stability of our food supply and national security.

Tim Goodlett, President of Casey County Farm Bureau Federation, presents a gift of thanks and appreciation to KY Senator Jimmy Higdon.

For over two decades, Chairman Jimmy Higdon has built a legislative career in the Kentucky General Assembly, with influence concentrated in infrastructure, pensions, and public policy reform. As chair of the Senate Transportation Committee, he has secured significant funding, including hundreds of millions of dollars for transportation improvements in recent state budgets. Senator Higdon prioritizes his past and current counties within his district.

His leadership roles include Senate majority whip and president pro tempore.

Higdon has also played a notable role in supporting Ky Farm Bureau priorities around fiscal responsibility and agriculture initiative’s. Higdon’s support for maintaining House Bill 44 that limits property tax increases has been extremely impactful on all citizens in the Commonwealth.

Beyond fiscal policy, his legislative efforts have included work on advocacy for veterans and military families—such as launching the “Military Kids Day” program.

Collectively, his accomplishments reflect a focus on infrastructure development, financial stewardship, and incremental policy reforms affecting both governance and community welfare in Kentucky.

Thank you, Senator Higdon, for everything you have done for Casey County. We deeply appreciate your efforts, and respect the work you have done for our county and our state!

We also truly appreciate our legislators who currently represent Casey County - and who also attended the meeting to give a legislative update: Representative Daniel Elliott, and Senator Brandon J. Storm - Kentucky, 21st District. Hats off to both you guys for the work you do every day to advocate for KY agriculture and farm families.

So proud of Kentucky Farm Bureau for advocating for our farmers and farm families. Thank you for all you do!

300 Kentucky Farm Bureau members were with me today in Frankfort meeting with lawmakers and speaking up for the issues that matter to Kentucky farm families. I had the opportunity to testify before the House Agriculture Committee on Senate Bill 199 and share why this legislation is important to the future of agriculture in our state.

I want to thank Chairman Myron Dossett and the members of the House Agriculture Committee for passing SB 199 today and for the thoughtful research and deliberation they gave this bill.

SB 199 would give farm families greater certainty by reinforcing that federally approved pesticide labels meet warning requirements under Kentucky law, while preserving accountability for fraudulent or misleading conduct. That certainty matters to farmers who depend on these tools to protect crops, manage costs, and continue operating in a sustainable way.

Thank you to the committee members who voted for SB 199:

✅ Chair Myron Dossett
✅ Vice Chair Dan Fister
✅ Rep. Ryan Bivens
✅ Rep. Chris Freeland
✅ Rep. David Hale
✅ Rep. Kim King
✅ Rep. Matt Koch
✅ Rep. Shawn McPherson
✅ Rep. J.T. Payne
✅ Rep. Sarge Po***ck
✅ Rep. Nancy Tate
✅ Rep. Walker Thomas
✅ Rep. James Tipton

I encourage Kentucky Farm Bureau members to thank these legislators for their support. I also ask our members to contact their state representative and encourage them to vote yes when SB 199 comes before the full House.

“Thank A Farmer February,” an annual project of Casey County FFA, concentrated on farmers’ health and safety this year! Last night, joining with the Casey County FFA Chapter, and KDA’s Raising Hope program, our CCFB Women’s Committee offered an evening of WELLNESS AND APPRECIATION for farmers and farm families. We appreciate all who could attend, learn and practice how to “Stop the Bleed”, perform CPR, and initiate First Aid steps. As attendees rotated through the learning stations, they received a first aid kit, a tourniquet, and a CPR mouthpiece/keychain. We pray 🙏🏻 you never have to open any of the packages… but if you do, we are glad you have them available! We send our gratitude THANKS to everyone involved in making this event a success! 🎉
