Over the past year, we’ve:
• Successfully defended dispositive and emergency motions in state and federal court
• Won multiple dispositive motions filed on our clients’ behalf

Tomorrow, Lexington's Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on a proposed ordinance that could change the public's ability to provide input on final development planning in the City. With the passage of HB 443 last year, Lexington is required to apply its planning and zoning regulations "ministerially." This means the Commission will no longer vote on final development plans (with limited exceptions).

Because development plans often change significantly between the preliminary and final phases, this procedural change takes public input out of what is usually the most detailed step of a project. Proponents of HB 443 believe these changes will remedy delays, and make project development more objective and predictable. What do you think?

Meet Holland Legal’s mascot: the cunning and adaptable fox 🦊

When and I began brainstorming the branding for Holland Legal, I kept returning to my first year of law school and my favorite course: property. It’s where we learned about the landmark New York case that considered when possession or occupancy rises to the level of ownership. A lawsuit over the chase of a fox by two hunters created an American precedent that eventually established the “rule of capture.” This principle still guides courts through disputes about natural resources and property ownership. In fact, it is the bedrock of oil and gas regulation in the United States today.

I took this fairly academic point to , who ran with it. Luke did an incredible job bringing my branding vision—and Holland Legal’s astute fox—to life.

Introducing Holland Legal, PLLC with a few words from the new firm's founder and principal attorney, Lexy Holland:

During my first year of law school, a professor gave me a card with a quote from a fellow Kentuckian: "I want it said of me by those who know me best, that I always plucked a thistle and planted a flower when I thought a flower could grow." President Lincoln's words sit framed on my desk to this day and regularly serves as a reminder of why I chose this profession.

My goal in this new practice is to help my clients identify and eliminate those thistles--the roadblocks in your business planning, or the unexpected land use dispute. And more than that, I want to help you prevent thistles from growing in the future.
