Some good self-help tools but really her story is illustrative of why you need to just do it. An attorney commits you to the process, works through the decisions with you and provides the necessary ancillary services that, when absent, create hurdles that people very often can't get over.

Estate planning is not something most of us want to spend our time and money on but having the inevitable happen to you when you have done no planning makes a difficult time infinitely more unpleasant, time consuming and expensive for your people. Having a Will is a bargain in the long run and lets you have a say in how your things are divided rather than having your estate or family pay the state to sell and divide your possessions as the statute may demand. Guardianship of children, Personal care directives, and appointment of people you trust to handle your affairs if you are unable to- are compelling reasons to address your estate plan.
