Where’s the best trick-or-treating in Lexington? 🎃

Halloween lands on a Saturday this year. That means busy sidewalks, full candy bowls, and a whole lot of tiny Wildcats running from porch to porch.

We put together a local guide to the neighborhoods people talk about every October, including Ashland Park, Chevy Chase, Hartland, and Kenwick. You’ll also find this year’s hours, the Thriller Parade date, and a few tips for visiting a neighborhood that isn’t your own.

Trick-or-treat: Saturday, Oct. 31, 6 to 8 p.m.
Thriller Parade: Sunday, Oct. 25, 7 to 9 p.m., Main Street downtown

Sweater weather, a warm coffee, and trees turning gold. Fall in Lexington is almost at its best. 🍂

Most years, the leaves around here peak in mid-to-late October. Some years the color lingers into early November.

It’s the kind of season where a quick walk after work feels like a mini getaway.

Raven Run has wooded trails just outside town. Leave the dog at home for this one, though, since pets aren’t allowed.

The Arboretum is free, open dawn to dusk, and perfect for a slow Sunday stroll. Just skip UK home game days, because the parking lot closes.

And when you want the big views, the Red River Gorge is about an hour east. Pack a lunch, bring layers, and go early.

Every fall, somebody picks the biggest pumpkin in the patch.

And somebody else has to carry it to the car.

That’s Central Kentucky in October.

Wagon rides.
C***r donuts.
Muddy boots.

But this year’s a little different.

The heat and the rain hit the apples hard.

Evans Orchard in Georgetown says U-pick apples are very limited this year. The c***r mill and the fried apple pies are still there.

Boyd Orchards in Versailles?
It’s Eckert’s now.
Same farm. Same road.

So here’s my one tip.

Check the farm’s page the morning you go.

Fields close when they’re picked over. Save yourself the drive.
