Janet Miller Wiseman LICSW Certified Family and Divorce Mediator
Janet graduated from Simmons College School of Social Work with an MSW in Clinical Psychiatric Social Work in 1972. During this time she also obtained certification in Family Therapy from the Boston Family Institute. Her undergraduate studies at Michigan State University were in psychology, anthropology, political science, and sociology. She practiced at the Greater Lawrence Mental Health Center, working with adolescents, couples and families from 1972-1978, with Dr. Joel Eichler, Ph.D. as her chief clinical supervisor, and additionally, Dr. Ray Yerkes, M.D., Dr. Natalie Low, Ph.D., and June Fletcher, LICSW. Janet began her private practice as an individual, couple and family therapist in 1976 in Brookline, MA. Janet forms a trusting, caring mutual relationship with clients and treats issues of life transition, marital and family dysfunction, decision making, depression, anxiety, ADD, ADHD, PTSD, OCD, bi-polar manic depression, grief, parenting, grandparenting, in**st, substance abuse in the family and so much more. Clients has described Janet as “smart, very caring, right on the money, hilarious, and as bringing a glow into the room”.
Janet invited the Academy of Family Mediators, Steven Erickson and John Haines, to train a group of prospective mediators to Worcester, Ma. In 1981, and she helped co-found The Massachusetts Council on Family Mediation in 1982, where she was President for two years and the initial head of public relations for many years. In 2008, Janet received The John Adams Fiske Award for Excellence in Mediation. Janet attended the Program on Negotiation at Harvard University in 1981.
The MCFM has been offering continuing education on a bi-monthly basis to Janet and a group of mediators for 35 years. In addition to these trainings, over the years, Janet has received mediation training from the Program on Negotiation at Harvard University, the Mass Council on Legal Education, the Mass and American Bar Associations, the Divorce Center in Massachusetts, Insight Financial Planners and Chalwick and Senes Certified Divorce Financial Analysts.
