This fall was busy for our team with staff presenting at the Virginia Animal Control Association State Conference and the Virginia Animal Control Academy.

Director Stively, Deputy Chief Smokoska and Senior Humane Law Enforcement Officer Hernandez shared their expertise on topics including livestock husbandry and handling, crime scene investigation, evidence collection and processing and state laws governing shelters and rescues.

We’re grateful for the opportunities to share what we’ve learned, learn from our peers, and continue working together to improve the lives of animals and the people who care for them.

A big thank you to the Loudoun County Health Department for supporting our September vaccination clinics. We saw 428 animals come through and provided free vaccination and microchipping services! We are thankful for their work to help keep the pets and people of Loudoun County happy and healthy.

Buster went on a field trip the other day and they wrote us the sweetest update!

"Hi there, it was so nice to meet sweet Buster today. What a happy boy! 😍 He was giving me thank you kisses in the car.

Buster had a great walk around Morven Park. He enjoyed lots of sniffs and was so excited to be on an adventure walk. The rain did not bother him one bit. Buster was so good on the leash and he took care of all his business. Buster was amazing! ❤️ I hope he gets adopted soon."

Join us in saying thank you to the local students who made these pet kits for animals adopted from the shelter!

These students not only gathered food and toys to create the kits, but also researched and created educational handouts to help cat and dog adopters set their new family members up for success!

We’re so grateful for community members of all ages who use their skills and talents to make a difference for animals. Thank you!

Look at this puppy dog! Okay, so maybe he's not an actual puppy, but don’t tell Donny that! Donny is absolutely convinced he’s just baby who belongs on your lap. And honestly? We’re not here to crush his dreams, even if he is slowly cutting off circulation to our feet...

At about 6 years old, Donny has perfected the art of being a big, lovable baby. When he isn’t whining for snuggles, you’ll find him strolling around with our volunteers, enjoying a car ride on a field trip (he's not exactly the lets go for a long hike type), or showing off his sit - always with one paw out like a perfect gentleman!

Donny has previously lived with children and other dogs, and he is reported to have been housetrained in his previous home. Interested in meeting Donny? Stop by the shelter! We're open 11am-6pm for adoptions.

We love an alumni update! Bill Nye's adopters wrote to tell us how this sweet dog, now called Max, is settling in!

"Hello! We wanted to give you an update on our sweet boy, Max!

From the minute we brought Max home, he has fit right in with our family! We have had him about a week and a half now, and his personality is really coming out! He is smart, funny and just overall a great dog, and we are so glad he is part of our family.

He's also been a fantastic motivator for long walks in the neighborhood and meeting more of our neighbors! He loves water, and we are looking forward to taking him with us on hikes this fall. We also think he might enjoy dressing up with us for Halloween! 🎃😊"
