Whoooooo is that?

Humane Law Enforcement Officer Stasi found herself wondering the same thing when a call for assistance came in. Hikers exploring the trails at Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park had spotted an owl in distress and called us for help.

Upon arriving at the scene, HLEO Stasi found the answer to whooooo was in need. This Great Horned Owl was on the ground and unable to fly away. HLEO Stasi safely caught the owl and transported him to Blue Ridge Wildlife Center for further evaluation and care.

Thank you to the kind community members who spotted the owl and took the time to secure help. Thanks to your empathy and action, he has the best chance at recovery and hopefully a return to the wild!

No school? Pets rule! Join us for a day camp on Friday, September 4th at the animal shelter for children ages 7-11.

Day Camp on Friday, September 4th will be "Introduction to the Animal Shelter." We’ll learn about the shelter, animal care and more! Campers will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of animal-themed activities such as making enrichment items for shelter pets. Cost $50/camper.

Please pack a lunch for your camper and sunscreen/bug spray for outdoor activities.

Our dogs are all smiles because Clear the Shelters starts TOMORROW at LCAS! 🥳

Stop by the shelter Friday, August 28 through Sunday, August 30 from 11am-6pm.

Adoption fees are waived for available animals! Cats and dogs will go home with a three-month supply of flea/tick preventative and a large bag of pet food. Dogs will also go home with a three-month supply of heartworm preventative, sponsored by Friends of Loudoun County Animal Services.

You might have noticed an interesting parade down our gravel roads in Western Loudoun today! Our Humane Law Enforcement team got the call that a bison was loose and creating his own version of a farm tour through the neighborhood.

Our HLE officers responded and formulated a plan while our dispatch team worked behind the scenes to identify an owner. Thanks to the Operation: Protect Livestock database and community members calling in, our dispatchers were able to connect with his owner. The HLEOs and owner along with deputies from Loudoun County Sheriff's Office worked to es**rt this wandering friend down the road and safely into a field.

Thank you to all the community members who called - we are happy to share that this bison is safe and out of the road!

Do you have livestock? Sign up for Operation: Protect Livestock to help keep them safe! Operation: Protect Livestock is a free program for livestock and horse owners offered by Loudoun County Animal Services and the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. By registering, owners can be quickly notified if their animals break free from their fenced fields and wander into roadways.
