With the emergence and popularization of format, online estate planning documents, it’s very important for those who choose to do their estate planning online without the oversight of an experienced attorney to know how each document must be executed. Virginia has very stringent laws about how each document needs to be signed, whether it must be witnessed, notarized, who can serve as a witness or notary, and whether the document must be signed by all parties at the same time! It can get overwhelming, so when in doubt, talk to an attorney to make sure you’re not cutting corners on a very important matter. Give us a call to learn more – 703.771.9740

This week’s blog is about estate planning for newlyweds – many people think estate planning is only for the elderly or the wealthy. This is not true – getting a practical plan in place is absolutely essential at any age and with any assets – give it a read to learn more!

Are you or someone you love tying the knot in 2025?  Or, are you not so newlywed, but still have updating your will on the back burner?  Some of our clients have the misunderstanding that estate planning is only for the mega-wealthy or elderly.  We try to educate everyone

Happy clients make us happy! Here is what one of our collection clients had to say after using our firm for collection of accounts receivable:

“We have been utilizing Mr. Wakefield’s legal services for approximately three years. In this time, he has proven to be the most successful attorney and closed more cases quickly and fairly than previous firms. Mr. Wakefield and his staff are always courteous and prompt, which is a rare find these days. They are willing to explain the legal process and the expectations from legal proceedings. The knowledge and insight that he has passed onto us have proven to be successful for our business; we will be lifelong clients!”

Did you know that we work with most of our collection clients on a contingency basis? What that means is that on debt collection cases, our clients do not pay flat fees or hourly rates. Our firm is compensated using a contingency fee arrangement, which means we are paid a percentage of what we are able to recover for our clients. This means our interests are 100% aligned because we only get paid when you do. There’s also very little risk in going forward because even if we are unsuccessful and have to close the file as uncollectible, you don’t owe our firm a dime in legal fees for all the time spent! Happy clients make us happy! Here is what Allison said about working with Michael on her family’s estate plan:

We had the absolute pleasure of working with Michael Wakefield and his team to create our life planning documents, including our wills, trust, POAs, etc. From the very beginning, Michael was incredibly patient and thorough, walking us through every step of the process and explaining everything in a way that was easy to understand. His attention to detail and genuine care for our needs made us feel completely confident in our decisions.

What really stood out, though, was how comfortable and at ease we felt throughout the entire process. By the time we went into his office to sign all the documents, it truly felt like visiting an old friend. Michael’s warm, friendly demeanor made even what could be a stressful experience enjoyable. We shared plenty of laughs and smiles (which is a big deal when you are talking about end of life and "worst case scenarios"), while knowing that we were in the best hands possible.

We can’t thank Michael enough for making this process a smooth and stress-free experience. If you’re looking for someone who is not only knowledgeable but also kind, approachable, and truly cares about your peace of mind—someone who will give you examples of options to consider or talk through scenarios he’s seen play out—we wholeheartedly recommend him.

If you’ve been in an accident and you are getting calls from the negligent party’s insurance company (the company who represents the person who caused the accident), it’s best to speak with an attorney before talking to the opposing party. Insurance adjusters are often trained to look for ways to minimize damages and injuries – a simple off-handed comment could seriously impair your ability to attain justice that you deserve. When in doubt, schedule a free consultation with Wakefield Law about your personal injury case! We’ve been doing this for over three decades and are here to look out for you. 703.771.9740

Happy clients make us happy! Here is what Tina had to say about using Wakefield Law for her child’s personal injury case:

My daughter was in a car accident two years ago and I was unable to get all on the medical records together no matter how hard I tried. I realized time was running out and Charles Wakefield was referred to us. I'm so glad we called. Everyone at the office was kind and wonderful to work with. Mr. Wakefield fought hard for my daughter and we are thrilled with her settlement package. I will not hesitate to call them again (much sooner next time).

This week’s blog focuses on how we help clients with their personal injury cases using a contingency fee model. Our firm is only paid a percentage of what we are able to recover for you from an insurance settlement or through litigation – there’s no risk of surprise bills or still owing a lawyer a bunch of money if you were to lose your case. One piece of advice that we give to all of our personal injury clients after they have been in an accident is to not speak with an insurance company or adjuster about how they are feeling or their path to recovery. Insurance professionals are often trained to elicit responses that can minimize damages or injuries after an accident. We’ve seen time and time again that anything someone says, even if in passing or without careful thought, can and will be used against them in regard to their personal injury case. Give us a call at Wakefield Law to see if we can help protect you and your personal injury claim after an accident. Charles Wakefield has been practicing personal injury law in Virginia for over three decades with great success – when it comes to your health and recovery, hire an expert! 703.771.9740
