Simms Showers LLP is currently seeking a well-qualified applicant for an administrative assistant position (with some paralegal duties) in our Criminal & Traffic Law Practice Area. The position involves being the first point of contact for clients and providing administrative support to our criminal and traffic law attorneys with several dozen combined active cases.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate is a logical and organized individual who is a skilled multitasker. This person handles external stress well (situational and relational) and can maintain a courteous and professional demeanor under pressure. The ideal candidate should be able to think critically about the merits of potential cases and creatively problem-solve when encountering challenges. The ideal candidate should be very well organized and able to keep track of multiple different cases at once, as well as keep track of payments from clients. The ideal candidate is self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision. Excellent writing and editing skills are required.

Preferred Skills (but not required):
- Administrative experience
- Spanish proficiency or fluency

NIFLA Decision Webcast

On Tuesday, the U.S. Supreme Court granted a huge free speech win for pregnancy resource centers in California in their 5-4 ruling of National Institute of Family & Life Advocates (NIFLA) v. Becerra.

The Court held that the State of California violated the First Amendment by requiring licensed Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPCs) to post notices referring women to state-provided services, including abortion clinics. The Court also held that California violated the First Amendment by requiring unlicensed centers to post notices to the effect that they were not medically-licensed.
