Pleasant Hill's 1976 time capsule is finally being opened! πΊπΈ
The time capsule, originally sealed on July 4, 1976, will be opened and its contents on display on Independence Day!
9 AM: Guest Arrival
9:30 AM: Welcome, Speakers & VFW Ceremony
10 AM to Noon: Live Band in the Gazebo & Viewing of Time Capsule Contents
Important Information:
The time capsule itself, located in front of City Hall, is a vault that was donated by the Stanley family. To safely extract it, a vault company will assist with the unearthing process.
Because we must coordinate with the vault company's availability, the vault is tentatively scheduled to be unearthed on Tuesday, June 30, at 10 AM. The public is welcome to attend and observe the unearthing; however, the main unveiling event will take place on Saturday, July 4, when the contents will be displayed for everyone to see.
Opening the vault prior to July 4 helps ensure there are no unforeseen scheduling conflicts that could impact the holiday event. After retrieval, the vault will be securely stored until July 4. During the event, the vault will be displayed and opened on Depot Drive, with the items arranged on tables beside it so attendees can see both the capsule and the items preserved inside.
Following the event, the contents will be displayed at the Pleasant Hill Historical Society Museum for a period of time. Additional details regarding the display period and retrieval of any personal items, if necessary, will be announced at a later date.
Join us as we celebrate our nation's birthday and discover what Pleasant Hill residents chose to preserve for future generations 50 years ago!
π Stay tuned for additional events happening in Pleasant Hill on July 4th as we commemorate America's 250th Anniversary.
