In the picture, from left to right, you'll see J. Michael Robbins, Brandon Dragan, and Donnavon Vasek.

J. Michael Robbins - Josh, a Founding Attorney at Vasek & Robbins, focuses on Estate Planning, Special Needs Planning, Real Estate, and Probate Matters with 11 years of legal experience. He was recently appointed as Special Needs Planning - Vice-Chair by the American Bar Association.

Brandon Dragan - Brandon is an Associate Attorney at Vasek & Robbins. He began practicing law in 2022 after graduating from Belmont University College of Law in the top third of his class. He is also a published fiction writer and winner of the American Bar Association Journal's Ross Writing Contest.

Donnavon Vasek - Donnavon, a Founding Attorney at Vasek & Robbins, has 9 years of experience in Criminal Defense, Probate, and Civil Litigation. He recently completed the DWI detection and standardized field sobriety testing course that law enforcement officers complete through NHTSA during their training to investigate impaired drivers and the Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) that some officers go through as well.

Spoofing scams continue to target our residents using various intimidation tactics, including:

• Spoofing our non-emergency phone number (615-444-1412) to display on your caller ID.
• Providing legitimate employee names and ranks from the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office.
• Threatening arrest for non-payment of legal fees or failure to report for jury duty.
• Instructing you to purchase gift cards, report your mileage, and share serial numbers to access the card amounts.

Please share this information with family members who may not use social media. Remember, never give out personal information such as account numbers, Social Security numbers, or passwords. If you receive a call asking for prepaid gift cards or personal information, hang up immediately.

If you become a victim of a scam or need to report one, contact your local law enforcement agency.

Operation Dry Water will take place this Holiday weekend on Old Hickory Lake. TWRA and the Wilson County Sherrif have expressed that they will have a presence on holidays and weekends to patrol and monitor waterways. As a reminder, BUI penalties align with DUI in terms of jail time, fines and loss of boating privileges. Please celebrate responsibly but if you or someone you know needs legal help, give us a call.

The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office is proud to participate in the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s Operation Dry Water this July 4th on Old Hickory Lake. Our Boat Patrol, represented by Deputy Darbonne and Deputy Burton, attended the press conference at Nissan Stadium to stand in support of this important operation.

With increased boater activity during the holiday, TWRA will be on heightened alert for boating under the influence infractions. Law enforcement officers will increase patrols and work to raise awareness about the dangers of boating under the influence. Alcohol use is a leading cause of recreational boater deaths, and operating a boat with a BAC of .08 percent or higher is illegal in Tennessee.

A Word from Attorney Donnavon Vasek, Attorney at Law
Today is July 1st and several new laws are taking effect. Every year the Tennessee Legislation passes new laws and this year there are over 200 new laws or changes taking place. Of those new laws, there are exactly ZERO that strengthen your constitutional rights or level the playing field if you are accused of a crime.

When many of these laws take effect, it can take years before the constitutionality of the law is ever challenged and ultimately heard before being determined to be unconstitutional. That was the case in the Terry Rainwaters et al. v. Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency et. al., a win for landowners, Judge Usman Wrote for the Court, that occupied landowners subjected to unreasonable, warrantless searches by government agents was a "disturbing assertion of power on behalf of the government".

This Statute that was challenged has been around for several years before it made its way to court. See some of the newly enacted laws below.

• The enhanced penalties for DUI now apply to BAC levels of 0.15, down from the previous 0.20 BAC Level

• Death Penalty is now an authorized punishment for r**e, aggravated r**e, or especially aggravated r**e of a child

• “Debbie and Marie Domestic Violence Protection Act” – Court Orders require certain Offenders to wear GPS devices capable of notifying victims if in proximity until the court finds the offender no longer poses a threat to the victim or public safety

• “Back the Blue Act” – Assaulting an officer is now a Class E Felony, punishable by a minimum of 60 days in jail and a $10,000 fine.

• Anyone who places a child 8 years or under in danger of death, bodily harm, or mental/physical impairment whether in engagement, omission, or negligently increased penalties to a Class B Felony

• Penalty for drag racing has been increased to a Class E Felony.

Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, found out they had been freed — after the end of the Civil War, and two years after President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. It's the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. The troops’ arrival came a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth honors the end to slavery in the United States.

Local festivities included the Market Street Juneteenth Community Festival on Saturday, June 15 but Nashville will have a Juneteenth Celebration today more details see here:
