🏡 Life changes. Shouldn't your estate plan change with it?
Creating a will or trust is an important first step, but estate planning isn't something you should do once and forget!

Marriage, divorce, the birth of a grandchild, buying a home, or losing a loved one can all affect your estate planning needs.

✅ A good rule of thumb: Review your estate plan every 3 to 5 years, or sooner after a major life event.

An outdated estate plan could leave your loved ones facing unnecessary confusion, expenses, or complications.

At Life Well Lived Law Group, LLC, we help Georgia families review and update their estate plans so their wishes and legal documents reflect their lives today.

FAQ: Won’t my spouse automatically inherit everything?

Not always. If you die without a will in Georgia and leave both a spouse and children, they generally share the property in your estate. Your spouse is entitled to at least one-third, but the rest may pass to your children under Georgia law.

A will lets you make your wishes clear instead of leaving those decisions to the state’s inheritance rules.

Making a will in Gwinnett County? Start with these 5 steps:

1️⃣ Decide who should inherit your property.
2️⃣ Choose an executor to carry out your wishes.
3️⃣ If you have minor children, consider whom you would name as their guardian.
4️⃣ Put your wishes in a written will.
5️⃣ Sign it properly. Georgia requires two competent witnesses to sign in your presence.

Keep the original will somewhere safe and make sure your executor knows where to find it. A conversation with a Georgia estate planning attorney can help you address your family’s needs and avoid mistakes in the signing process.

🏡 Do all heirs have to agree to sell inherited property in Georgia?

When multiple family members inherit a home or other real estate, deciding what happens next isn’t always simple. One heir may want to sell, another may want to keep the property, and someone else may simply want their share of the inheritance.

So what happens when everyone doesn’t agree?

Our latest blog explains how Georgia law addresses jointly inherited property, including co-ownership, an executor’s authority, disagreements among heirs, and when a partition action may become an option.

Understanding your rights before selling, transferring, or making decisions about inherited property can help prevent costly mistakes and family conflict.
