I saw it in my rearview mirror.

Twenty-five years ago this morning, I dropped my boss off at the Pentagon. I was crossing the 14th Street Bridge when it happened.

I kept driving to the Navy Yard and watched the rest of the day unfold from there.

One of the longest days of my life. The most frightened and confused I have ever been. No social media then, just the news, running around the clock, for a week straight.

Some of you remember exactly where you were standing. Some of you were too young to remember, and enlisted anyway.

Today I'm thinking about the people who didn't come home. New York. The Pentagon. A field outside Shanksville.

No pitch today. Just remembering.

💰 **BAH is not a blank check for housing.**

A lot of service members know their BAH rate, but not everyone thinks about what happens when the local rental market moves faster than that allowance.

Your **BAH is based on pay grade, dependency status, and duty-station location**. If your housing costs less than your BAH, you may keep the difference. If it costs more, that difference comes out of pocket.

That matters during a PCS, TDY, training assignment, or temporary transition when you may only need housing for a shorter period.

**BaseNest is a short-term housing marketplace — not a mid-term or long-term rental platform.**

Our goal is to help military and government-connected travelers compare short-term housing options with local BAH benchmarks so they can make a more informed housing decision.

👇 **PCS families and service members: what matters most when choosing temporary housing?**
A) Staying under BAH
B) Location near the installation
C) Furnished and move-in ready
D) Space for the family
E) All of the above

PCS orders drop, and you're usually the one who has to find somewhere to live.

Verified, furnished housing near the installation, built around military orders, not tourist seasons. Stays up to 29 nights. Every host and every guest is verified before anyone books.

I spent 26 years in the Navy processing PCS and TDY claims, well over 2,000 of them in the last couple of years prior to my retirement. BaseNest receipts are itemized and DTS-ready, so a bad receipt doesn't get your voucher kicked back. — Moises

236 years ago today, ten cutters set out to guard America's coastline. The Coast Guard has been Always Ready ever since.

Happy 236th birthday to the United States Coast Guard.

From the Revenue Cutter Service in 1790 to the search-and-rescue crews, port security teams, and cutter sailors on watch right now, Semper Paratus isn't a slogan. It's the job.

BaseNest was built for the people who serve, including the Coasties who PCS to stations most folks have never heard of. Verified housing, built for military moves.

Happy birthday, Coast Guard. Thanks for standing the watch.

I spent 26 years in the Navy as a Yeoman. I lost count of PCS moves somewhere around year ten.

Every move came with the same headache. Hotels were tight and never fit a family. Open-market rentals were a gamble — you booked a place sight unseen and hoped the host was who they said they were.

I always thought there should be a better option for people on orders. Something built around how military moves actually work, where both sides are verified before anyone commits.

Nobody built it. So I did.

BaseNest is a short-term rental marketplace where every host and every renter is government-ID verified. Stays are structured around PCS, TDY, and TLE timelines — not tourist weekends. It's the platform I wish I'd had for 26 years.
