Whew! It is a scorcher out there!

With the ongoing Extreme Heat Warning, it's a good time to remember Kansas' Good Samaritan Law for hot cars. The law protects individuals from civil liability for reasonable action to assist a vulnerable person or animal if the vehicle is locked or there is no reasonable method for the person or animal to escape, there is a good faith and reasonable belief of imminent danger, law enforcement is notified and the individual stays with the person or animal until law enforcement or first responders arrive.

Always make sure to double check your car before you walk away on a hot day!

There will be a Kansas Constitutional Amendment on the primary ballot on August 4. The deadline to register to vote (or update your registration) for the primary is July 14. Check your registration right now at https://myvoteinfo.voteks.org/VoterView

Juneteenth reminds us that the law on paper and the law in practice are not always the same thing.

The 13th Amendment was ratified in 1865. The last enslaved people in Texas didn't learn of their freedom until June 19th of that year — months later.

The gap between legal rights and lived reality is exactly why advocacy, representation, and access to justice matter. It's why we do what we do.
