Animal Advocates of. Northern NM is happy to share with everyone that Mora County has established their own advocate/rescue group called Animal Lovers de Mora Advocates (ALMA).

A few months ago Sheriff Americk Padilla reached out to us with questions on animal welfare because he wanted to make positive changes for the animals in Mora County. Sheriff Padilla had already began purchasing animal supplies to rescue, was working with their county attorney on ordinances, and submitted for an Animal Control position. He knew the process would take time but wanted to start making change as soon as possible. We immediately offered our support and input, and also connected him with AWC and provided him with names of other groups/rescues. We got him connected with Donna Karr from Spay Taos, who has already jumped in and helped spay/neuter many animals from Mora County free of charge. We stressed to Sheriff Padilla the importance of building a team, networking, and collaborating with other groups and they have listened and done all the above.

We are happy for Mora County and thankful for everyone who has joined ALMA to make a difference. Animal Advocates will stand by ALMA and continue to offer our support in any way we can ❤️🐶🐱

Pupdate on sweet Rufus. Sara Jo took him to Turquoise Trail Veterinary Urgent Care yesterday to be assessed and treated. We are so thankful to the wonderful Dr. Andrea Trujillo, vet tech Audrey, and all the staff there for getting him in so quickly and providing such great care.

We found out Rufus is about 12 years old and is deaf and blind. He has many ticks which have made him anemic, and caused a parasite, that he will need antibiotics for long term and possibly indefinitely. This bacterial infection from the ticks is causing severe joint pain and discomfort for him. He has many broken/missing teeth and will need dental work, as well as vaccinations, at a later date due to his immediate state. He had to be sedated to shave him down to remove all the ticks and matting, and to cut his very long nails. His total vet bill came out to $1,782.27. We did receive some donations, and we are so very appreciative for those, so thank you all. If anyone would like to donate and help us with the remainder of the bill, our Venmo will be below and we accept cash/check.

Sara was able to talk to Ulla, owner of Kindred Spirit Animal Sanctuary, and she was kind enough to take in Rufus and give him the best life he deserves. Kindred Spirit also operates off donations, therefore, if anyone would like to donate to their sanctuary and all they do visit their website

Thank you everyone for your continued support in our efforts…we appreciate you all ❤️🐶🐱

A wonderful Samaritan Cori Peterson posted this poor dog that was lost/dumped in the Rociada area. Monica immediately reached out to her and informed her that Animal Advocates would assist in rescuing this guy. This evening Laura and Monica headed out to catch him, however, before we reached our destination another good Samaritan Justin Burkyhl caught him and met us. Thankfully, Sara Jo and Ryan have offered to foster. This poor dog is going to need grooming and medical care ASAP. He is very matted, has such long nails, missing teeth, and appears to be deaf and possible blind. We want to thank everyone involved with making this rescue successful. If anyone would like to donate to Rufus’s (what Laura named him) care our Venmo will be below. We also accept cash/checks. Sara will be taking him to Turquoise Trail vet in the morning if anyone wants to donate straight to his bill there. Thank you everyone for all
your continuous support…we can’t continue doing this without you🐶🐱❤️

Animal Advocates members Reina and Monica worked together with Chief Caleb Marquez and CSA Kevin, to rescue these two puppies that were dumped. An initial call came in reporting 3 dumped puppies to Reina, in which the good Samaritans were abele to catch one puppy, and decided to keep it. Monica looked for and found the other two doggies that night, and left food and water until a plan could be made. Thankfully Chief and Kevin were able to secure the puppies the next morning. Reina and her friend Elena took in the puppies until foster June Roybal took them home, and since has been providing care and socialization. Animal Advocates would like to thank everyone who helped with this rescue, teamwork really does make a difference. Thank you to everyone who supports our efforts in animal welfare/rescue. If anyone would like to make a donation to help us continue our efforts our Venmo link is below. We also accept cash/check ❤️🐶🐱

Please keep your pets safe. So many dogs have been posted lately, and they may have been scared off by the fireworks and are now lost. Fireworks can be very triggering for pets, and can cause anxiety and distress. If your pet suffers this time of year please ask your vet about prescribing something to calm them. You can also purchase natural/holistic alternatives like h**p, THC, CBD, essential oils, etc from local distributors or online. Also, ID tags/air tags are so important. If you cannot get them right away, write your contact info on duct tape, and put it on the dog/cat collar. If your pet goes missing, file a report with the Las Vegas Animal Care Center in case it gets taken there.

Animal Advocates loves to share the happy updates with everyone, especially because Cowboy was famous here in town, and so many people grew to love him. Cowboy found his perfect forever home a few weeks ago and is settling in well. His new family loves him so much, and him and his fursister are having a blast together. We thank them so much for giving him a chance and taking him in. We also thank his previous family for loving him enough to let him go. We hope this outcome makes your hearts as happy as it make ours.

Animal Advocates appreciates any donations made to help us continue our efforts in helping with animal welfare. Venmo is below and we accept cash or check…just message us and we can pick up 🐶🐱❤️

This beautiful girl is looking for a new forever home as her owner has unexpected medical issues. She is a Shepard mix, 1 1/2 to 2 years old, she is spayed & vaccinated. Since she is young she is playful and wants attention from her human. She is also kennel trained and sleeps inside at night. She needs a secure area when outside as she is a curious young pup. If you are interested in her please let us know 🐶❤️
