What Is the 17c Diminished Value Formula and Is It Legal in Nevada?
That "diminished value" offer from your insurance adjuster? It might be built on a 20-year-old Georgia court settlement that has nothing to do with Nevada law. ⚠️
Adjusters across the state still email out the so-called 17c formula like it's gospel, capping your loss at 10%, then shrinking it further with damage and mileage "modifiers." If your car has over 100,000 miles, the whole thing can spit out ZERO. Even when your Carfax now shows an accident, and dealers are knocking thousands off your resale.
Here's what they're hoping you don't know: Nevada doesn't follow Georgia's old math. We use a completely different standard, and if your adjuster can't tie their number to real local market data, they're not following the law. They're just betting you won't push back.
Don't argue their number. Ask them ONE question instead. (Watch to the end. 👀)
