The purposes of this Section shall be to encourage a high order of ethical and professional attainment; to further education among members of the Section; to support and carry out the programs, purposes, aims, and goals of the State Bar of Michigan; and to establish good fellowship among Section members, the State Bar of Michigan, and the members of the legal community at large.

The State Bar of Michigan Paralegal/Legal Assistant Sectionโ€™s 2026 Annual Meeting, scheduled for ๐’๐š๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐๐š๐ฒ, ๐’๐ž๐ฉ๐ญ๐ž๐ฆ๐›๐ž๐ซ ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ”, ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ”, ๐š๐ญ ๐–๐ž๐›๐ž๐ซโ€™๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ข๐ช๐ฎ๐ž ๐‡๐จ๐ญ๐ž๐ฅ & ๐‘๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ฎ๐ซ๐š๐ง๐ญ, has been canceled.

Due to unexpected medical circumstances affecting several members of Section leadership, including individuals whose participation is necessary for the meeting and Council election process, we are unable to proceed as planned.

The State Bar of Michigan Paralegal/Legal Assistant Section invites all section members to connect, learn, share ideas, and help shape the upcoming year.

The Paralegal/Legal Assistant Section of the State Bar of Michigan is proud to recognize and congratulate our Council Member, Melvenna Fant-Jones, M.A., C.P., C.S.A.T., D.V.T., on being named the recipient of the prestigious ATHENA Leadership Award.

This distinguished honor recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership, professional excellence, community service, and a commitment to helping others achieve their full potential. Melvenna exemplifies each of these qualities through her tireless advocacy, servant leadership, and unwavering dedication to uplifting others.

As the Founder and Executive Director of Women Healing Eternally and Transforming (WHEAT), Melvenna has dedicated her life to supporting survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, homelessness, and other forms of trauma. Through her leadership, thousands of individuals and families have received critical resources, advocacy, support, and hope.

Beyond her remarkable community impact, Melvenna has been a valued member of our Council, contributing her knowledge, insight, and passion for service to strengthen the Paralegal/Legal Assistant Section and the legal profession as a whole. Her commitment to leadership, mentorship, and advocacy continues to inspire those around her.

Today, the State Bar of Michigan Paralegal/Legal Assistant Section gathered at Oakland Community College in Farmington Hills for an outstanding Day of Education filled with learning, networking, professional development, and inspiration.

The day began with a wonderful breakfast and welcome remarks from our Section leadership, setting the tone for a day dedicated to excellence in the paralegal profession.
