Schools are back in session, and there is a new law in effect concerning school buses.
🚌 The law now allows for school districts to install cameras on the buses to record stop arm violations.
🚌 School personnel can review camera footage and sent notification of a violation to the registered owner of the vehicle within 30 days of the violation.
🚌 The registered owner is presumed to be the driver of the vehicle.
🚌 The school can asses a civil penalty of $300 paid to the school district with each subsequent violation within a 3 year period being a $500 penalty.
🚌 You can contest the violation and the case will be heard in District Court.
🚌 If you don’t pay the fine or contest the violation within 60 days, a referral will be made to the Department of Transportation to suspend the vehicle’s registration.
🚌 The law has been amended to require vehicles on a 4 (or greater lane) highway to stop while traveling in the opposite direction of the bus UNLESS there is a raised or unpaved median.
