Settlement Firm vs. Trial Firm: Do you know the difference?

Not all personal injury law firms approach your case the same way.

Settlement firms may focus on getting a case resolved quickly—even when a quick settlement may not be in your best interest.

Trial firms prepare differently. They take the time to fully investigate your case, build your claim, understand what it’s worth, and prepare to fight for the best possible outcome—whether that means negotiating a strong settlement or taking your case to trial.

When choosing a personal injury lawyer, don’t just ask, “Will you settle my case?”

Ask: “Are you prepared to take my case to trial if that’s what it takes?”

The difference can matter.

At PARRIS Law Firm, we can help you overcome the physical and financial burdens that arise after a catastrophic injury. We take all of our cases on a contingency fee basis, which means if we don’t win, you don’t pay. We will advance all the costs necessary to litigate your case – including accident investigations, filing a lawsuit, and going to trial, if necessary. Do you see it? Neither did they—until it was too late.

When you’re merging into traffic, gaps can disappear in seconds. Rushing to make a lane change or merge can leave you with nowhere to go.

Slow down. Pay attention to the road. Make sure the gap is actually there before you commit.

Safe driving starts with staying aware and giving yourself enough time and space. 🚗⚠️

September 1, 1998 | A major milestone in automotive safety 🚗💥

On this day, the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 went into effect, requiring new passenger vehicles to have airbags for both front-seat occupants.

But the story of mandatory airbags began more than a decade earlier.

In 1984, Elizabeth Dole helped create a compromise with automakers in an effort to get stronger seat belt laws passed across the United States. Automakers were essentially given a choice: help states pass effective seat belt laws, or face a federal requirement to install airbags in vehicles.

The strategy didn't produce the results regulators hoped for. Many states either failed to pass qualifying seat belt laws, or the laws they passed didn't meet the required standards.

As a result, in 1991, Congress added an airbag requirement to the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act, setting the stage for airbags to become standard safety equipment in passenger vehicles.

And the impact was significant. Federal crash data has shown that airbags reduce driver fatalities by about 30% in frontal crashes.

🚗📱 Social media can wait. Your safety can’t.

Distracted driving is a major cause of car crashes—and with social media always just a tap away, your phone can be one of the biggest distractions behind the wheel.

A quick scroll. A notification. “Just one” text or post. It only takes a few seconds of looking away from the road to put yourself and others at risk.

📵 Put your phone away.
👀 Keep your eyes on the road.
🛣️ Stay alert and drive defensively.

But social media and phones aren’t the only forms of distracted driving.

What other driving distractions do you see on the road? And how do you handle encountering a distracted driver?

Back in July, Six Flags quietly shut down its popular X2 roller coaster after two women suffered severe traumatic brain injuries that required surgery.

Doctors described the injuries as similar to those sustained in a high-speed collision.

The X2 roller coaster has also been linked to several complaints over the years involving head and neck injuries, raising concerns about roller coaster safety and the potential risks associated with extreme rides.

As thrill seekers continue looking for more intense ways to be entertained, it’s important to pay attention to how you feel after getting off an extreme ride. Symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, confusion, and vomiting should not be ignored.

If you experience these symptoms or otherwise feel unwell after riding a roller coaster, make sure to seek medical attention.

On August 26, Meta reached a $17 billion settlement in a multi-state lawsuit, followed by an additional $1 billion settlement with the state of Texas, bringing the total to $18 billion.

Beyond financial damages, the settlements include new proposed protections for Facebook and Instagram, including:

⏱️ Daily time limits
🌙 A nighttime mode designed to block access
🏫 A school mode to limit notifications during school hours

In a statement on its blog, Meta also called on TikTok and YouTube to adopt similar protections, arguing that these measures could help establish a new standard for social media safety and youth protection.

⚖️ While an agreement has been reached, the settlements still need court approval before they can be finalized.

What do you think — should TikTok and YouTube be required to implement similar protections?

Caller ID seems like an everyday thing today—but did you know there was a time where people believed it was illegal in California?

The myth goes back to the 80’s and 90s, when Caller ID was being introduced. California pushed back over privacy concerns, even petitioning the FCC to address them.

Then, in 1996, California finally adopted Caller ID—but with strict rules, including permanent and per-call blocking.

The battle, plus the restrictions, helped fuel the myth that Caller ID itself was illegal in California.

Meta on Trial

Meta is facing a massive legal battle over how its social media platforms affect teenagers.
Last week, the trial against social media giant Meta began in Oakland, California. 31 states allege that Meta knowingly designed its platforms to hook young users, contributing to serious mental health harms among teens.

The states are seeking $1.2 trillion in damages — and the outcome could have major consequences for how social media is designed, marketed, and presented to children and teenagers.
Could this lawsuit change social media as we know it?
