It's a great honor to be published in this month's issue of Colorado Lawyer!

I'm happy to be able to share my knowledge of Colorado's new automatic record sealing laws, and hopefully this article can serve as a guide for practitioners and pro se petitioners.

Even though I'm no longer hosting clinics, I still love to assist with record sealing. Auto sealing will provide tremendous relief, sealing records without the need to hire an attorney. But there will always be some cases that are tougher or need to happen faster that may need some help.

This article is especially meaningful to me because I worked on it in the wee hours of maternity leave. Some days now feel like I can't quite get a handle on things, and this reminds me I am actually still doing a lot!

After a beautiful summer with my baby daughter, I am now starting to get back from maternity leave. I am so thankful to own my practice and be able to take this incredibly special time to be with her. I never could've had the flexibility without Colorado's Paid Leave Act - where I was able to opt-in to FAMLI leave, even being self-employed.

Kicking off the holiday weekend with a huge win for my private record sealing client! 🎉

This afternoon, we went to hearing in Arapahoe County to seal a nearly 20-year-old DUI conviction — something that’s rarely granted. DUIs typically aren’t eligible for record sealing unless the DA doesn’t object or we meet a significantly higher legal standard.

Ultimately, I was able to get the DA on board. The Judge even asked multiple times if that was really the DA’s position because she had never seen Arapahoe County agree to seal a DUI conviction before.

There’s a first time for everything. 🙌 So proud to help my client and help them to move on from this record!

**Exciting Update from A. Moffitt Law**

I am now licensed to practice law in the State of Iowa! This is exciting for me, having grown up in West Des Moines and attended University of Iowa for both undergrad and law school.

In 2015, I moved to Colorado and passed the Colorado Bar Exam. I quickly started at the Colorado Public Defender’s office, and have been practicing criminal law and specializing in record sealing ever since.

After 10 years of practicing in Colorado, I was able to waive into the Iowa Bar upon motion.

I don’t have plans to move back to Iowa, but I’m there often enough visiting friends and family In Des Moines. I’m excited to open up this new realm of possibilities.

I plan to expand my record sealing/expungement services back to my home state. Iowa has a lot less that is eligible to be sealed than in Colorado, but there are still pathways. I’m hoping this can help some of my fellow Iowa Hawkeyes who may have gotten wrapped up in the law enforcement complex of Iowa City. Saturday's Expunge Colorado Record Sealing clinic was a huge success! It takes a few days for me to get everything organized afterwards and ready to file. But now I can reflect on the amazing day we had.

Attorneys, DU students and general volunteers came together to help our community move forward from their past criminal records. We were all there with the common goal and understanding that no one should be defined by their past. With that focus in mind, the volunteers worked enthusiastically to make a difference. The day was energizing, hopeful and inspiring - and organized better than ever I will say!

After 7 years of clinics, it's truly amazing to see what we can do when we come together. My hope is that the opportunities we opened up Saturday will create ripple effects throughout the community for years to come.

Thank you to all who came & helped and have supported us through the years!

5 years ago today, I started A. Moffitt Law. It was a dream I dove into and I'm so glad I did. The flexibility in work schedule and ownership of the cases I take ensure that I'm energized to keep the work going.

I'm proud of my work in all three practice areas: record sealing, criminal defense, and plaintiff personal injury. I've become an industry leader in record sealing, obtained six-figure settlements in PI cases, and zealously advocated for my criminal defense clients - obtaining dismissals at a satisfying rate. My firm allows me to really focus on my clients and help them through their most trying times. Here's to another 5 years!

Denver7 interviewed me for a segment yesterday about Colorado's Clean Slate Act.

In July, thousands of criminal convictions will be automatically sealed in Colorado due to a law passed in 2022.

I was interviewed for an article in today's The Denver Post about the automated sealing process that is beginning in Colorado this summer. Expunge Colorado, as a member of the Colorado Clean Slate Coalition, helped to pass SB22-99 to bring this automatic relief to more than 100,000 Coloradans.

The State Court Administrator's Office compiled the first list of records to be automatically sealed, and the District Attorney's offices in each judicial district responded with objections. I spoke to DP about how we will be looking into those objections to ensure they were based on the reasons allowed for in the law.

More than 100,000 Colorado criminal convictions could be wiped from the public record this year due to the state’s Clean Slate Act.
