Thank you to Robyn and Eliesa of the Sandwich Generation podcast for the shout-out on Fox 9 Good Day! And for highlighting how a mediator can help when siblings disagree about the care of an aging parent.

These conversations can be difficult and can quickly escalate when health care decisions, caregiving responsibilities, and legal matters are involved. Mediation can help families move toward resolution rather than escalation by creating space for communication, understanding, and a path forward.

The October issue of the Still Waters Mediation newsletter is out early! This issue explores what it means to prepare for difficult conversations before they become urgent. In “Preparing for the Freeze,” I connect this to something Minnesotans know well: we prepare for winter because we know it’s coming. Conflict is harder to predict, but we can still build skills that help us navigate it when it arrives.

This issue also features the story of the St. Croix Valley Grief Coalition and its Growing Through Loss program, along with an article from Care Patrol about helping families navigate senior care decisions.

I’ve also included upcoming presentations and events, including Growing Through Loss, the 2026 Minnesota CLE ADR Institute, and Brighter Days Family Grief Center
