Florida charges $423.00 to file for divorce and while that may seem a lot or a little to you…I don’t know why you’d want to pay it twice.

Florida does not recognize “legal separation”.

If you want to work on your marriage and give it one last try or try couples counseling or just put the brakes on the divorce to give it time, go ahead. If no movement occurs on a case within a certain amount of time, the court will give you notice first and then dismiss it automatically.

That sounds a lot better than dismissing it and refiling a month or two later.

But that’s just me.

Seriously…like a chicken with its head cut off is what one attorney compared me to and I wasn’t even insulted because when something needs to get done, I’m going to get it done.

We need a child support DRD print out? I’ll go pick up one. Just give me a minute.

Three hearings in 3 different courtrooms back to back? No problem. Hopefully the elevator is working.

My paralegal texted that the Judge called and will agree to hear my emergency motion but it has to be now? Ok. Let him know I’m on my way. Duh! It’s an ER!

Client was just arrested and is on the first appearance docket, I’ll be there. Let’s see if we can get bond.

Client wants a certified copy of their Final Judgment of Divorce? Sure. I’ll pick it up on my way out.

Client brought last minute texts to court but only one copy? I’m heading to the 3rd floor library to make copies. I’ll be back.

If you’ve been in or are in a high conflict divorce, you know that the 5th Rule of Divorce Fight Club is that it’s NEVER one fight at a time.

Nope. It’s not just the divorce.

They cry and file for an injunction for protection. And call the cops and make something up to get you arrested. And notify DCF making up some type of false allegation.

They want to hit you on all fronts. Now, don’t get me wrong, there are cases with legitimate claims but there are also cases where they are not.

You need to be prepared. You need an attorney who is prepared. Divorce is not for the weak. I keep telling you.

Pick up on your spouse’s cues. Generally, you will get an idea that things are about to hit the fan and you ignore them.

Don’t!! Not now!!

If you yell “stop,” or go limp, or try to tap out…that’s the moment your spouse is about to come out guns blazing.

Divorce is not for the week. But fortunately, you are not weak.

You may feel the anxiety from the unknown and you may feel overwhelmed at discovery demands and the process overall but that’s normal.

Do not let the stress get to you. Be the straight line to their scribble chaos stay on track. Talk to your attorney about what is important to you and make sure that you understand the strategy to get you there.

This is the time to know that you are right. When they start to show their true colors and fight dirty, keep your composure and rise above. Show your children that you are not petty. You are strong. Able. Confident. And aware that this is just temporary.

Hold on a little bit longer. You can do this.

Why aren’t they on DND or blocked? Kids?! Ok. I get it but…

Did they tell you that you weren’t getting alimony? What do they know. They don’t know the law. They’re just trying to intimidate you. Duh!!

Did they say that you have to move out of the marital home before the sale? WTF?!? Says who? I haven’t seen any court order? They’re just blowing smoke.

Did they say that you’ll lose custody and never see your kids again?! 🙄😂Come on, now. You are a good parent and Florida assumes it should be 50/50. Nobody losing their kids. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Stop listening to someone who clearly doesn’t know the law, who is trying to intimidate you, and is full on sh*t.
