The "Great Crusade" as future President, then General Eisenhower called it began 80 years ago today slightly before 06:30 hours local time at Omaha, Utah, Juno, Sword and Gold beaches in Normandy, Occupied France. 120,000 Allied troops from 🇨🇦, 🇬🇧, 🇺🇸 began landing on the beaches reopening the Western European front of World War II. Few of those soldiers are still alive today, many more never came home. Buried at Normandy having given their all for country and freedom for themselves, their families,.their countrymen and for people whom they never even met. In many cases they couldn't even communicate with the people whom they were liberating. However, the people of Western Europe and Western Civilization are forever grateful for what they did that day and the many battles that followed until ultimate victory in May 1945.
