I’ve heard many mentors, friends, and clients tell me, “your 40’s are the best decade.” Today I am 43. And thus far, I genuinely hear and feel their words. 40’s have brought me great change and unimaginable personal growth. I have learned to be more vulnerable and open with my emotions. I have learned to focus on my mental and physical health. I feel confident and secure in my profession. I have found a work and life balance; that in years past would have made me scoff at as laziness. I have shed negative and distracting people and things that take me away from my goals and happiness. I have discovered what feeling loved feels like. (Incomprehensible, until you feel it) I have become a new man, a new father, and, I believe, a better person. My work is not done, and every day I have to continue growing, challenging, and improving myself. Buts so far, my 40’s have been an amazing trip and education. If I could look back and talk to my younger me, I would simply give this advice: don’t wait to long to focus on your own happiness. Physical wellness, emotional wellness, mental wellness, happiness, joy, and to give love and be loved vigorously. You can have all these things. Do not be a “good man,” rather, strive to be a “great man.” And remember above all else, sometimes to achieve the later, you have to destroy the former. Happy Thanksgiving!!!
