Our Story

St. Charles / WestPlex Appraisal Services started out of necessity as St. Charles Appraisal Company in 1979. Shirley Holbert (Sutton) started training as an appraiser and a realtor in order to support herself and her 2 children. Turns out, she chose the right business. Shirley was sold proprietor and appraiser for St. Charles Appraisal Company until she was joined by Tonya Keown Hall (her daughter) in 1986. The company had not only survived but thrived under the leadership and commitment to excellent customer service Shirley provided to her customers. Tonya was joined by her sister Terri Schneider (other daughter) in 1988 and a family operation began. Shirley trained both Terri and Tonya over the next few years, teaching them the same valuation methods and customer service she had always depended on. Shirley, Terri and Tonya obtained the necessary education and training hours to earn the IFA designation, which they all held in good standing until 1993 when state certification took over appraiser requirement. Shirley tested and earned her General Certification in the first test cycle in the State. Tonya and Terri both achieved Certified Residential license in July 1993. In 2005 Tonya sat for and passed the state requirements for Certified General Certification.

In 2005, Shirley, Terri and Tonya formed an LLC Partnership known as WestPlex Appraisal Services, LLC. This company became a sister to St. Charles Appraisal Company and focused solely on serving “The Westplex” or Warren and Lincoln Counties in Missouri. Westplex Appraisal Services, primarily operated by Terri and Tonya was very successful from 2005 to 2013.

In 2013, Shirley Holbert (Sutton) retired. Terri and Tonya purchased the assets from St. Charles Appraisal Company and merged the companies into one, now known as St. Charles/WestPlex Appraisal Services, LLC. This new company has continued to carry reputation earned and the expectations set by the legacy started in 1979. We now service 5 counties in the state of Missouri, including St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Warren County and Lincoln County. We have maintained all of the basics from the beginning. Provide a friendly service that offers a quality product in a timely manner at an affordable price. This commitment to history and family will continue over the next 40 years and we look forward to working with you on the way.
