Southwest Louisiana Bar Association Young Lawyers Section

The Young Lawyers' Section is made up of members of the SWLA Bar who are under 40 years of age or have practiced law for less than 5 years.

The SWLA Bar Assn's Young Lawyers Section provides numerous outreach and community service programs, including Holiday Helping Hands, a Christmas toy drive, and a Law Day Poster and Essay Contest for students in grades Pre-K through 5th grades. The Young Lawyers Section also sponsors various social activities throughout the year to provide its members a chance to meet and mingle, and an annual bowling tournament and golf tournament.

The Annual Southwest Louisiana Bar Association Incrediball Tournament is July 11, 2026! ⚾️🏅

Entry is open to Calcasieu Parish Attorneys and members of their law firms or agencies. This year, we are inviting first responders/members of law enforcement to participate!

The Young Lawyers Section was proud to take part in this year’s Law Day celebration hosted by the Southwest Louisiana Bar Association.

Centered around this year’s theme, “The Rule of Law and the American Dream,” the event celebrated service, student achievement, and the importance of civic engagement in our community. Congratulations to all of this year’s award recipients and student contest winners!

We are incredibly proud of our Bishop Noland students for their outstanding achievements in the Southwest Louisiana Bar Association Law Day Essay Competition!

This year’s Law Day theme, “The Rule of Law and the American Dream,” challenged students to reflect on how laws help protect freedoms, create opportunities, and shape our communities. Law Day is an annual celebration recognizing the importance of law in our society and encouraging students to develop a deeper understanding of the legal profession.

Each year, the SWLA Young Lawyers host an essay competition, with winners being recognized in front of judges, attorneys, and law enforcement officials from across Southwest Louisiana.

We are so proud of these students for representing Bishop Noland with excellence through their thoughtful writing, hard work, and leadership. Congratulations on this incredible accomplishment!

Bench Bar weekend recap! ⚖️

The SWLA YLS spent the weekend learning at CLEs, building connections with colleagues, and enjoying some friendly competition on the golf course and pickleball courts. Grateful for the opportunity to grow professionally while spending time with such a great group of attorneys.

We had a great time at our March meeting! We are so glad members of the McNeese Pre-Law & Politics Society could join us! Our young lawyers answered questions about law school and how to effectively prepare for a legal career.

🎄 Huge THANK YOU to PetSmart Lake Charles! 🎄

For over a decade PetSmart Lake Charles has donated 250+ stuffed animals every Christmas to support our Holiday Helping Hands program. This year, 237 children across 38 schools will wake up smiling on Christmas morning — and every one of them will have a stuffed animal thanks to PetSmart.

We’re incredibly grateful for their generosity, partnership, and heart for our community.

A big thank you to PetSmart of Lake Charles for donating over 200 furry friends for our Holiday Helping Hands program!

Holiday Helping Hands is a community project by the SWLA Bar Association Young Lawyers Section that provides Christmas gifts for children in the Southwest Louisiana area. It's generosity like this that allows the program to thrive and bring joy to a child's holiday season!
