🚔 Big Change in Louisiana DWI Law – Effective June 2025 🚔
Louisiana just passed a new law (HB 403 – Act 194) that adds mandatory fines to every DWI conviction:
1st Offense → +$25 fine
2nd Offense → +$50 fine
3rd Offense (felony) → +$100 fine
4th or later (felony) → +$250 fine
👉 Because of these new fines, the total penalty for a misdemeanor DWI now crosses $1,000. That triggers your constitutional right to a jury trial—even for a first or second DWI that used to be judge-only.
✅ What this means if you’re charged:
You now have the right to demand a jury of your peers.
Jury trials bring new strategies and defenses to the table.
A small fine increase has created a major change in your rights.
⚖️ If you’re facing a DWI charge in Louisiana, don’t walk into court without knowing your new rights.
