Steps to Take After an Offshore Injury

If you are injured while working offshore, taking the right steps can help protect your health and your legal rights.

Important steps include:

1. Report the injury immediately to a supervisor or captain.
2. Seek medical attention as soon as possible.
3. Document the accident if you are able, including photos or witness names.
4. Avoid signing documents you do not fully understand.
5. Consider speaking with a maritime attorney familiar with offshore injury cases.

Offshore companies and their insurance providers often move quickly after an accident. Getting reliable information early can help protect your interests.

Look Out for Bicycle Riders on the Road

On the road, we share one goal: getting home safely. Drivers, please look out for cyclists and give them space. Cyclists, thank you for signaling, using lights when it’s dark, and riding predictably. A few simple steps can prevent accidents and save lives.

Slow down near cyclists, especially near intersections.
Leave at least 3 feet (1 meter) of clearance when passing.
Check mirrors and blind spots before changing lanes or turning.
Don’t block bike lanes or doors; open car doors with care.
Use signals, make eye contact, and anticipate turns by other drivers.
Avoid distractions like phones while driving.

Cyclists: ride defensively, follow traffic laws, use lights at night, wear bright gear, and signal your moves. Let’s create a predictable, respectful flow for everyone on the road. 🚴‍♀️🚦

Together, we reduce injuries and save lives. If you agree, share this post and help spread the message. 🙌

Following up on a major maritime law issue: ‘Maryland Announces $2.5 Billion Settlement Over Baltimore Bridge Collapse’

"The state of Maryland has finalized a $2.5 billion settlement with Grace Ocean Private Limited and Synergy Marine Pte Ltd., the owner and operator of the cargo ship Dali, over the ship’s March 26, 2024 allision that caused the collapse of the Baltimore’s Key Bridge and killed six workers. Attorney General Anthony G. Brown said the settlement resolves civil claims brought against the vessel interests on behalf of the state and its agencies, including the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA), the Maryland Port Administration (MPA), and the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE). Brown said this settlement does not resolve the state’s claims against the shipbuilder, Hyundai Heavy Industries. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), in a report in November 2025, found Hyundai to be at fault in causing the Dali’s loss of power and its crash into the bridge. He said the state intends to pursue those claims. ...

Maryland’s $2.5 billion civil settlement came following a ruling in January allowing Synergy to proceed with its claims under an 1851 maritime law that limits liability for shipowners. The state of Maryland and wrongful death claimants had sought to prevent Synergy from invoking the Shipowners’ Limitation of Liability Act on the basis that Synergy did not meet the requirements as an owner of the ship and thus is not entitled to limited liability protection granted by the law. But U.S. District Court Judge James K. Bredar denied that motion. The state did not challenge ship owner Grace Ocean’s invoking of the maritime law. As a result, both Grace Ocean and Synergy are entitled to stand trial on their right to limitation."
