Long before 3523 Longfellow Boulevard became one of Compton Heights’ most recognizable estates, it was commissioned by Edward T. Haase, son of August C.L. Haase, founder of one of America’s largest specialty food importing companies at the turn of the twentieth century.

In 1905, the family entrusted the design to renowned architect Theodore C. Link, whose work helped shape the architectural identity of St. Louis and beyond. His portfolio included St. Louis Union Station, the Mississippi State Capitol, and many of the region’s most celebrated Gilded Age residences.

The result was an estate befitting one of St. Louis’ most prominent families - a grand residence set upon one of the largest parcels in historic Compton Heights, complete with an original drive-through carriage garage and chauffeur’s quarters, features rarely preserved more than a century later.
Remarkably, the home has remained quietly stewarded since its completion in 1905.

For more than 120 years, generations of ownership have preserved its extraordinary millwork, leaded glass, pocket doors, and architectural character, allowing the home to remain a rare surviving example of St. Louis’ golden era of design and craftsmanship.

And now, for the first time since it was built, this storied residence is being offered to the open market.

In 1927, August Busch Sr. and renowned architect Edward Bakewell established the legendary Bridlespur Hunt Club on Squires Lane, creating what became the center of St. Louis equestrian society for decades. Long before Huntleigh became synonymous with estate living, this land hosted formal fox hunts, horseback riders crossing the rolling countryside, and gatherings of some of the most influential families in the region.
