Got a bid to refurbish the antique dining table I inherited from my grandmother. This beautiful, lace tablecloth came too, along with a stunning buffet. This tablecloth has adorned basically every Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas table for 30+ years.
The quote came to almost $5000!
My jaw hit the floor 😳
I was feeling sad about it. Sad about telling my grandma the table’s days are passed. So many memories have happened around that table. Two generations worth, and the whole family recalls many of them regularly.
Then, on a completely different note, I was showing my sister a flat lay of materials I’m still deciding on for our kitchen reno. Her immediate response was, “I LOVE IT, it reminds me of grandma’s old dining room!” I was confused because she had pine planks and green carpet… then my sis clarified. “Well, what you’ve picked makes me feel the same way hers did. Warm and inviting, and whole mood.”
In that moment I realized it’s ok that table won’t be used any longer. The memories aren’t about the table we were sitting around, but the people sitting around the table. ♥️♥️
I sure am glad, though, that the tablecloth still carries on!
