Chevo Pastrano grew up in Kyle, Texas where he graduated from Jack C. Hays High School in 1994. After high school he was employed by the Hays County Sheriff's Department and worked his way through Southwest Texas State University, being awarded a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting in 1999. Chevo then attended South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas. While at South Texas, Chevo was a member of the national mock trial team in Dean T. Gerald Treece's renowned advocacy program. Chevo received several mock trial awards, including being named South Texas' best mock trial advocate. Chevo graduated from South Texas as a Doctor of Jurisprudence and was licensed by the State Bar of Texas in 2002. Since leaving South Texas, Chevo has become an experienced and exceptional trial lawyer trying nearly 50 cases to verdict with great success. He is proud and honored to be a trial lawyer.

This past month, our firm stepped outside its traditional personal injury practice to take on a criminal case pro bono—one we believed presented an opportunity to effect meaningful systemic change.

I am incredibly grateful for the dedication and hard work of everyone in my office who helped represent Xavier Gutierrez. Because of those efforts, Xavier can now return home to Brazoria County.

I am also grateful for the difficult but necessary discussions we have had with the Hays County District Attorney’s Office and the Hays County Sheriff’s Office. My intent is to turn the issues raised by this case into meaningful systemic changes that make our community safer.

Based on those conversations, I am confident these issues will continue to receive the attention they deserve as we work toward a criminal justice system that is fair, righteous, and just.

The public and the media help to police the police.

When a Bexar County Sheriff’s Deputy caused an auto-pedestrian collision with an individual with mental health challenges, that same deputy failed to summon the required medical assistance anyone else would be required to, then the deputy discussed taking the injured man to ‘detox.’
