NOT GUILTY!
This week, my colleague Mary Newton and I tried a case in Blountville, TN. My third jury trial this year. My client had been falsely accused of shooting at the alleged victim in Bristol and was facing charges of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

After two full days in trial, we secured a dismissal of the reckless endangerment charge and a Not Guilty verdict on the aggravated assault. A huge thank-you to Mary for her dedication and teamwork throughout this trial.

Cases like this remind me why I do what I do. Every hour of preparation, every detail poured into this defense, was worth it. This week, justice prevailed.

Listen everyone, knowledge is power! The more information you know, the better you are able to protect yourself when you need it. I thought it would be a great idea to drop some knowledge on you from time to time. So I’m proud to introduce: Eke Law Firm Legal Tips! Short and sweet legal tips that could protect you one day. The first one is considered my Golden Rule: Shut Your Mouth.

The 5th Amendment affords us the right to not incriminate ourselves. We have the right to shut our mouths when we are suspected of committing a crime. You would be surprised with just how much trouble you can avoid just by simply remembering the Golden Rule. So please do yourself *and your lawyer* a favor and… Shut. Your. Mouth.
