The court system often seems to be working directly against the interests of our clients. We work to make sure that each client gets the full advantage of the rights and protections afforded by our system of justice. What should you not do if you are pulled over for suspected DUI?

In this video, the attorneys at Barnes & Fersten discuss five common mistakes people make during a DUI traffic stop in Tennessee.

They explain how
1. Statements and explanations will be used against you
2. How not having your license, registration and insurance readily available may be an “cue” of impairment
3. Sobriety tests are voluntary tests that you can refuse because they will provide evidence of impairment otherwise
4. You can refuse a search of your vehicle and
5. Chemical tests (blood or breath tests) are the strongest piece of evidence to convict you of DUI.
The biggest misconception in DUI law is refusal automatically causes you to lose your license. That is not the case.

Happy Birthday, Brittany! 🎉🎂🎉

For the past 1½ years, Brittany has been an invaluable part of our team as a Paralegal. While she is an incredibly hard worker who is always willing to go the extra mile for our clients, she also brings plenty of fun to the office and keeps all of us on our toes (if you know you know 😉).

This year, we have even more to celebrate as Brittany recently completed her degree and will be walking across the stage this Friday to graduate from South College with an Associate of Science in Paralegal Studies. We couldn't be more proud of all the hard work and dedication she has shown to reach this milestone.

Please join us in wishing Brittany a very happy birthday and congratulating her on this exciting achievement. We can't wait to see what she accomplishes next!

This weekend, our attorneys completed the same 24-hour NHTSA Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) course used to train Tennessee law enforcement officers.

At Barnes & Fersten, we believe exceptional DUI defense starts with understanding every aspect of a case- including the training, procedures, and evaluations used during a DUI investigation. That's why our team is committed to continuing education and staying at the forefront of DUI defense.

And we're not stopping there. In July, our attorneys will attend an advanced DUI defense program hosted by the National College for DUI Defense in Nashville to further strengthen the knowledge and skills we bring to our clients.

When your future is on the line, experience matters- but so does a commitment to never stop learning.
